Crafty Dopers, what are you working on?

I’ve added some recent projects here. Show your work!

Very nice indeed. I think that your fabric choices are wonderful, and they really pair up well with the quilt patterns.

I may have added a thing or three since the last time I linked to the Things I Made.

Well, I went in looking around thinking I could pick a favorite, but it’s impossible. Perhaps the Caramel Bubble Gum earrings and not just because they remind me of caramel and bubble gum.

“Hamfisted stubfinger”! Hee hee. Me too.

gigi, I’m not a quilt person at all, but the one labeled Quilt09a is gorgeous!

I make jewelry, but I don’t have anything I’m currently working on. Biggirl, I like your chain mail. For some reason, I find making chain mail jewelry oddly relaxing. I also love the hammered craft wire and crystal earrings and the brass knot bracelet.

Oh good! It’s a table runner as a wedding gift for a co-worker I don’t know very well. But she wears a lot of black and her registry shows stark white dinnerware so I think it’s safe.

I made a phylactery last week. (A phylactery is a little leather box on a headband or armband, meant to hold little scrolls of religious verses.) The one I made wasn’t a traditional tefillin, just a costume piece I needed; it was a black leather box on a chain headband with a pulsing interior light source. Fortunately, the scene it was for was pretty dark, so the fact that I’m a lousy crafter who made a sloppy-looking phylactery wasn’t obvious.

I also made a “glowing” crystal that you could turn off by meditating at it, but that’s more gizmo than craft, I suppose, especially since the circuitry was still visible. Gizmos, I can do. Crafts are harder. (I tend to end up gluing my fingers together.)

Heh. That’s why I quilt by hand – the machine has a mind of its own. Only once have I hand-sewed my clothes into what I was stitching. :o

Shiny. Sparkly. Want!

I think that would be very effective. I thought that the colors were a bit drab, but with stark white dinnerware it will probably work very well.

I think what’s making it look dull is just the red background and the bright colors in the other images around it. I copied the image and cropped the red out to see it against a plain gray background, and it looks really elegant.

And Biggirl, love those herringbone/glass designs.

Here’s some blog pictures of a crocheted lace stole and a tied-comforter baby quilt made out of old T-shirts that I did last fall. Currently in the works are another T-shirt baby quilt and some thread-crochet projects.

And it’s quilted in silver thread

I love both of your projects, especially the backing on the quilt. Babies love bright colors!

Thanks! Don’t you wish there was a website like Ravelry for quilting/sewing projects? It’s really nice to have things documented and organized.

At present, I still “document/organize” sewing and embroidery projects just by keeping all my pattern designs and notes on graph paper in a three-ring binder. For a quilt, I staple small scraps of the backing and binding fabrics to the page in question so I can recall what it looked like.

How do real crafters keep track of what they’ve done and what they’re working on, if it’s something that doesn’t qualify for Ravelry?

Thanks everyone.

But we’re missing something. More linkage! I love seeing other people’s work.

I’m not currently working on anything, but I like to make small model pianos. I’ll post a picture of them at some point, if I remember.

After seeing some of the clay stuff I made back in college, a friend got me some self hardening clay.

I knew right away I wanted to make a set of Viking rune stones.

After much thought, I decided to also make a statuette of Baba Yaga*. Since the clay doesn’t need firing, I can use red LEDs for the eyes and run wires down to the base so they light up. I’m thinking of using some kind of metal for her teeth.

 • Baba Yaga is THE bogeyman of Russian folklore. She’s an old hag with iron teeth who dwells in a hut that walks on giant hen’s legs.

Ooh, I love working with self-hardening clay. I make hedgehog Christmas ornaments out of it.

OK, I’ve mustered up the courage to share some of my jewelry. Please keep in mind that most of these were made during a class, and I’m really just starting out. Shiny things.

I LOVE that curlicue ring and am going to steal that design.

It’s very pretty indeed, but I really like the red-white-and-blue necklace. The strong “flag” color combination gives it a sort of relaxed but energetic feel like a casual bead choker, while the muted colors and classic glossy shapes echo the elegance of a pearl necklace. Nice one!

Thanks! Biggirl, steal away! Kimstu, the red is actually orange aventurine. I made that one for a friend who is a big University of Florida Gators fan.
