Art/Craft Dopers: Whatcha workin' on?

I can’t contribute to the music thread, so I thought I’d start another “Whatcha workin’ on?” thread. I always like looking at other people’s work.

Here’s some of my latest.

Necklace

Pendant & earrings

Bracelet & earrings

I’ve showed you mine. Now you show me yours!

Wow, those are beautiful. I love the deep colors.

I am working on a quilt for a baby due this winter. Yep, it’s early but I tossed the quilt top I just finished because it was fugly. I will have to post a picture when it is done but it is in a riot of colors: bright blues, greens, oranges. Featuring a wonderful turtle print I can’t seem to find on-line.

I like the last one of the three.

I’ve got pictures of some stuff I have in progress, a little further along now. Currently on the needles I have a sock, a hoodie (for me) and a scarf and I have a little more hand sewing and my son’s sweater will be done. I figure by the end of the weekend he’ll have it to wear, there isn’t much left to do I’ve just been moving slowly.

I started to say, “I wish I could quilt and knit, but I don’t have the patience,” when I remembered someone watching me bead and commenting, “How tedious!” One person’s tedium is another person’s relaxation, apparently!

Currently working on a low yield thermo-nuclear device…just the thing to keep the cats off my lawn :stuck_out_tongue:

That’ll keep your lawn off your lawn, too.

I have had some failed attempts at jewelry making and beading but I was going to start working at it again. I just bought a few more supplies and a couple beading magazines. So freckafree, maybe I can ask you for help if I get stuck?
Mostly I do sculpture in papier mache or sculpey but I haven’t been working on much lately. I’ve got the bug to do something right now but I don’t have a nice workspace, so my current project is to clean out my garage so I can set up a work area for my messy projects, like PM. I don’t think I would want to show a current pic of my garage, even if anyone wanted to see it.

Or perhaps the ultimate “You damned kids! Get off my lawn!” tool.

You mentioned cats. You know the rule.

I’m knitting a few toys and the very beginning of a self-designed sweater (very beginning, as in, I’ve got about a third of the hem done) and I’m teaching myself to spin on a drop spindle tomorrow.

Absolutely! My e-mail address is in my profile. I’ve only been doing this since October, BTW. But once I discovered off-loom bead weaving, I knew I’d found the perfect match of medium and the way my creative brain works.

I’m learning to spin with a drop-spindle. I haven’t reached the “aha” moment yet, so it’s coming along slowly so far. I have a house-rabbit with extraordinarily soft and fluffy fur which she tends to shed in abundance; I’m hoping to spin it eventually, and make something from it.

In preparation, I’m brushing up my horrifically rusty crochet skills and hoping to teach myself to knit.

Here is my most recent thingie. I like how it came out.
I’m currently teaching myself how to use Corel “Painter X” (that’s X as in 10) which is a pretty nifty program. I’m using it to simulate oil paint right now. This is the start of what I’m working on (this is only about 10 minutes of work so far–it’s just in the baby steps. I haven’t even straightened the horizon line or anything) Sunset picture thingie

Holeee shit, OpalCat! Both pieces are stunning!

Aww, thanks! I just started painting last August and I’ve totally fallen in love with oil paints.

Here’s the scarf I started (strategically placed next to the photo from the pattern lol) and this is the sweater that I am finishing

As for beading being tedious… no it’s not! I’d actually have many more crafts on the go if I had the time, money and space. I like doing beading, cross-stitch, crochet, knitting, quilting, sewing… it all soothes me. I have necklaces, bracelets and earrings from when I was a teen (when I was more into beading) and kits of things stored away (mostly because of little hands, I like it slightly better than crochet and the needles aren’t as potentially painful/easily lost as cross stitch ones).

It’s really a matter of inclination. I’m just have a wide inclination thanks to my family. :stuck_out_tongue:

Opal! I love the paintings. You’ll have to show us the finished sunset.

I’m making this circular shrug for my sister but with a different stitch pattern across the back. It looks more complicated than it is; it’s really just a rectangle with certain edges sewn together. I’m about halfway through.

I’m cross-stitching a version of Van Gogh’s Skull With Burning Cigarette. I’d post a pic, but I’m only on page two of a twenty page pattern, so it’s mostly just a lot of background and a leetle bit of skull right now. Holy crap this thing’s gonna be big when I’m done, 16 x 22 inches. I was looking around for a craft project this summer but I couldn’t find anything I liked, so I put the Van Gogh pic into the Dark Lilac Stitch Chart Generator, which I think I learned about from this board. So far, it looks good, but it’s going to lake a looong time to finish.

You MUST post a picture when it’s finished!

I got my Plymouth Outback Wool Yarn today…squeeeee! I’m going to dive into my first felting project. I’m knitting a “commuter bag” (to put my lunch and stuff in when I go to work.) My daughter wants to make one too, so we’re going to knit together!

It’s been two weeks since my last project was finished…I was twitchy, let me tell you.

Everyone I know has been having babies, so I’ve been making bibs and onesies like crazy lately, and not much else. I have a pair of pjs for my hubby started (and by started I mean I bought the fabric and cut out the pattern), and a couch pillow almost done. I really wish I could bring myself to spend the $75 bucks to take the beginners sewing class at Joann Fabrics, I think it would save me a lot of headaches. But figuring out for myself is so satisfying!

I know what you mean, also about the headaches. I once made a 3 piece men’s suit for a friend of mine. I had taken a home ec course in 8th grade that included a brief segment on sewing, and I had made several things on my own of my own design, but this was my first time following a pattern. My friend, who had no money, had an important job interview coming up in a couple of days. I made the suit from beginning to end in about 2 days, teaching myself how to use a pattern as I went. I thought I was going to cry at least a hundred different times! It came out looking pretty good, though.
