Let's Talk Cigars

Spring might be nice, Sam, and if we get an Edmonton spring like last year’s, it will be here sooner than we might think. But my digs in Edmonton are smoke-free so the garage idea is tempting nonetheless. Hmmm…

Anyway, my schedule calls for me to be in Edmonton pretty much between now and April, though I do plan to be back in Calgary from time to time. Still, if summer hits, and you folks are willing to come to Calgary, I’d be happy to set something up at our place. We also have a nice back garden with a deck. Something to think about anyway.

Stratocaster, of course you’d be welcome. Though in a twist on an old Camel ad campaign, I can’t help but think, “He’d walk 2000 miles for a Cohiba.”

Hey, thanks for starting this thread! I’ve subscribed to “Cigar Aficionado” but it seems to be much more of a men’s lifestyle magazine than strictly a cigar education magazine (still, it’s had its benefits in that respect, too).

In the States, I pretty much go for the Dominican Monte Cristo Xanadu. In Mexico I like to pick up the Veracruz Te Amo #4s or even the Te Amo Andreas when I feel like spending a bit more (can’t seem to find an importer for the latter, though). In Canada, I’ve not found a really good cigar yet, given the prices. The Monte Cristos there are Cuban, and not nearly as good. The other assorted, expensive Cubans haven’t been to my liking, either.

As is, I don’t fill my humidor, and mostly purchase as I consume.

Cuban cigars and Canadian beer? Yeah, I think I could struggle along on that.

BTW, had another La Aroma De Cuba last night, one of my Christmas presents. We’re having a real warm snap here–it was still over 50 degrees at 8:00 pm, I believe; couldn’t resist taking advantage (today it will get close to 70). A pretty thick robusto. Fantastic yet again. I swear, I don’t own stock in the company (actually, Ashton owns 'em), but if you like full-bodied smokes, give one a try, whatever size strikes your fancy. Cigar Aficionado rated the Churchill a 91–I believe–validating my already unquestioned taste in cigars.
