Let's try Billy Joel again

Maybe we can keep things a bit more coherent this time.

Alessan…you don’t like Glass Houses? That album is full of pop gems…although there may be more filler in it than I remember. And sure, the French song (“C’est et tois?” my French spelling is probably bad) probably shouldn’t have been in French, but it is very pretty. And again, I like that the best songs on the album sound like an homage to Elvis Costello.

Which albums do you prefer? After Storm Front sucked so bad I didn’t really bother with much new stuff…

What’s the deal with Billy joel and all the posting about him? And why is this in the wrong forum?

The previous Billy Joel thread brought up lots of fun Billy Joel stories and everyone was having a good time until it turned into an argument of Bulletin Board politics. Now there are 70+ totally irrelevant responses and no one with any interest in the original topic will touch it. SO…thought I’d give it another shot.

Speaking of irrelevant responses, thanks for your input, posatyvo. I’m a bit new here. What forum does this thread belong in?

Hi, Kyomara! Welcome aboard.

General Questions is for specific, answerable questions. “Why is the sky blue?” and the like.

Your question, which is asking for people’s opinions, belongs in In My Humble Opinion. Don’t worry, a moderator will move it before too long.

Oh, and while I’m not a huge Billy Joel fan, I do agree… Glass Houses is full of fun songs.

I see now. I went and actually read the previous thread. Sorry if I sounded like a jerk. I had no idea there was a fourth CD to complete the set, now I have to go to the store tommorow. Nice to see a fellow a poster my own age, I get a little intimidated by all these 1500-3000 post people.

No hard feelings, man…I was just ribbing you.

Now what happened to all those Billy Joel fans?

My favorites:
Piano Man for The Ballad of Billy the Kid.

The Stranger basically the best as an all-around album.

The Nylon Curtain for Laura and Scandinavian Skies

On a related note: I’m going to see the Billy Joel/Elton John concert in Tacoma next week… for free!

Lawroot did someone give you a ticket or do you have inside access?

On a related note does anyone have a valid mailing addres to mail Mr Joel a letter of appreciation?

Warning: possible incoherency.

Now John at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And he’s quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But there’s someplace that he’d rather be

I wonder if Billy realises just how socially irresponsible John is. Didn’t he see the no smoking sign?
All proceeds to cancer research I say.

The no-smoking signs were still invisibile in American bars in the seventies (until the Bar Smoking Sign Visibility Act of 1991), just as they are still invisible everywhere in Euope.

Inside access? Don’t I wish! No, this is a late Xmas present from a friend of mine (who is also gong, along with his wife). He’s still trying to find someone to use the fourth ticket

OK, let’s pose a question then: Why is Billy Joel blue? :D:D

Because he’s not a happy person. (Sorry, I couldn’t help myself.)

I started the other Billy Joel thread, and I hope the squabbling is done by now. There was one answer to the question, “What are pink sidewinders?” (Someone said they are suspenders.)

I think his earlier recordings are better than his later stuff. It seems like his later work is lacking a passion that was there for the earlier stuff.

Favorite album: The Stranger, far and away. Of course, if you’re already a fan and you saw my post in the other thread, you probably could have guessed that.

By the way, thanks for starting this thread, Kyomara. I was just about to do something similar myself!

Off to IMHO.

I love Billy Joel!!

I’m familiar with much of his work, but I didn’t know what songs were on which album (I have the 4-CD box set - it’s fabulous, by the way). I just looked up the Stranger. WOW. It has just catapulted it’s way into my top 5 favorite albums. Two of my all-time favorite BJ songs are on it (Scenes from an Italian Restaurant & Vienna).

Now that I think about it, I guess I really love OLD Billy Joel. Once he got into the ultra-pop phase of “Uptown Girl” and the like, he really went downhill. I still enjoy his music, but his glory days were definitely the 70’s/early80’s.

Look at Christie Brinkley. He don’t have her no more!

Solely for the sake of stating my opinion:

I LOVE BILLY JOEL!

I think he’s an amazing songwriter and an incredibly talented musician. I love all of his music and own it all on cds and LPs.

While I am not an Elton John fan, I have heard he is a lot of fun to see in concert. I have also heard the same for BJ even though I haven’t yet had the opportunity to see him. I would love to see them in concert together. lawoot, I’ll take that 4th ticket.

I LOVE GREEN DAY!!!

Just another Billy fan popping his head in to say “Hi.” Although I have to agree that his older stuff is better than the newer stuff, I like it all. FWIW, my favorite album is most definitely Songs in the Attic, followed closely by The Stranger.
