As some of you may remember, I got a puppy back in April. It didn’t turn out well, to say the very least. You can find details here.
I now have the opportunity to purchase for my love, companionship, and entertainment alike, a shiny new puppy. He’s 100% chocolate lab (papers), he’s current on his shots (more papers… ) and, perhaps most importantly, I would love him and hug him and kiss him and call him George. Okay, not that last part. He already has a name - Bubba. I think I’ll change that. Maybe.
He’s currently 10 weeks old. I spoke with a vet who informed me that, under my circumstances, I should not have a puppy until it’s had its 12 week shots. I also spoke with the current owner who says it’s no problem for her to keep him for two more weeks and get him his vaccinations, for which I’ll pay her back.
I’ve been torn for a couple days, and researching like mad. Do I say “thanks, but no thanks (and I’m terribly, horribly sorry!)”? Some websites I browsed say I shouldn’t get a puppy until two weeks after his most recent vaccination, some sites say it’s okay as long as I get him more shots at 16 weeks, and other sites say that I’m handing down a death sentence if I get a dog at all.
Unless I get kicked in the teeth by you people, I think I’ll go on good faith. I’ve bleached my yard, Bubba’s current on his vaccinations and, damn it, I deserve this!
…In My Opinion, anyway.
So, as of Thursday, June 27, 2002… NEW PUPPY!
