Letter to potiential employer? Advice & Opinions needed.

My husband had two interviews with a great company in March, and from the vibe they gave him, it sounds like he’s got the job. They told him that they’re very impressed with him & he sounds like he’s the kind of guy they want. The last interviewer said they’d do a criminal background check and a credit check(?) and call him to make an official job offer between April and June (they’re hiring a whole new shift).

My questions: Do you think a short letter expressing his enthusiasm for the position is in order? Is it bad juju to send this type of correspondence or to call them? Is it customary for a company to keep dragging out the process without letting the new hires know where they stand? Not knowing for sure if they want him is killing us!

It doesn’t hurt to give a call or write a polite letter reiterating his interest and wondering how the process is going. It shows interest, which is a good thing.

I’ve bagged jobs partly because I was the only one who wrote a letter thanking them for the interview. It shows you’re conscientious, polite, and interested. I think it’s a good idea to let them know you’re still interested in the job (they may be worried that their best prospects are accepting other positions, due to the long hiring process they have). Good luck!!

Yes yes yes! You should always follow up any interview with a letter (NOT a phone call). It keeps your name in their mind.

Dear Ms. Drone:

I wanted to thank you again for your time during our interview.

I think this is a great opportunity, and I wanted to repeat that I am definitely interested in the position. Please keep my name in mind during your consideration, and don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me with any questions.

My phone number is (222)555-5555, and my e-mail address is homeless@unemployed.net. I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Shodan

When my husband wrote his follow up letters, he always tossed in an extra little sales pitch. Just a little reminder of his talents or perhaps a “clarification” of something that came up in the interview. He’s gotten several very good jobs over the years, so I have to think that the letters didn’t hurt.
