Honestly, I didn’t even know about the issue until just yesterday reading about it in the Omnibus thread. “Mistaken identity” has been a literary theme for, like, ever!

Politics are divisive. Last time I checked, there were a couple of hundred active threads that did not involve politics. There are maybe about a dozen or so highly partisan threads active at any given time, but that’s a small percentage of the total. And the moderators are good about quashing political hijacks.
Now I totally get that defending minority opinions may not be part of your ideal message board experience. I actually agree with that POV. That’s why I generally don’t post opinions that I know will be unpopular. I don’t enjoy the fight and I don’t have time. So I don’t post in those threads, and I don’t read threads that I think might agitate me.
So if you don’t like a TV show,you can change the channel instead of throwing away your TV. Just saying.

That’s what I do. There’s a handful of posters I simply won’t respond to. Why bother? It is a waste of my time and perfectly innocent electrons. I will only put somebody on ignore (two people at the moment) if they’re too frustrating to even read or communicate with. Or if they post things that are just too hard not to answer even though it would be a waste of time and electrons.
Reply to the dope: You must struggle with coping issues if this particular board bothered you so much. You are not a balanced, well-functioning adult in real life. Holy shit is that thread a trainwreck of who can be offended more and who has the right to speak. We were. Telling sexists to stop being sexist is being an adult. The only children in that thread were the people continuing to make excuses instead of growing the fuck up.
What I saw was a bunch of people overreacting to the slightest thing and jumping about trying to be seen as both offended and as morally superior.

Several months (years? maybe.) ago, I came to the conclusion that if stringbean ever posted something factual and worth reading, it would be posted elsewhere, by someone with whom interaction would NOT strike me as being an unpleasant chore with a paltry reward. So I put him on my ignore list, and have since read his output only through the quotes of other people.
That said, I haven’t read a good flounce post here in a dog’s age. I gather from the context of the responses that this OP has the potential to be one. So: a little help? Anything entertaining in this?
