Letterman can't keep his pants zipped.

I am sure these things are related somehow, and you’re not just bringing them up as a way to slam Letterman for botching a joke about the Palins. But somehow I can’t figure out the connection between Letterman having affairs with adults and your implication that he’s liable to hump 14-year-old Willow.

I’m looking forward to the explanation. I’m sure it’s brilliant.

Hey, that’s comedy gold.

He never struck me as a guy who was always after women but I guess you can’t tell everything by a person’s public behavior.

I’m not seeing why this extortion attempt is relevant to the possibility of a sexual harassment suit. The women involved already knew that they’d had a sexual relationship while on his staff, and they haven’t sued him over it. Why would they be any more likely to do so now?

Stephanie Birkett?

I don’t watch the show too much, and I know this is after the fact, but I always thought she reacted a little oddly to him and his comedy every time she was involved in a segment. Kind of a “yeah-yeah, heard it all” sort of way.
She really seemed to be just kind of putting up with him. Now with the hindsight, it makes some sort of sense…

Just a guess but maybe one of the women could decide that if this is all public now then why not sue him? Or they could be talked into a suit by a lawyer looking for a cut of a big settlement.

My guess is there is no lawsuit but I would not say it won’t happen.

If Dave wasn’t married, you can hardly call that scandalous. He’s had a girlfriend for 20 years, but as said, maybe there was an arrangement. Either way, it’s skeevy and a little taboo, but not nearly as much as if he were a married man. I seriously doubt any harassment charges will come of this. If anything, it’ll just paint him as more of a dog than anything else. Big deal.

He’s still as funny as hell, in his self-depreciating and immature way, yet intelligent and eloquent when he needs to be. He’s lost no respect from me.

If it’s true he was doing Stephanie, wow! I could tell he really enjoyed her presence and dry personality on the show, but wow. I can kind of see it now.

Money and fame can overcome intelligence and a self-deprecating sense of humor every time.

OMG! A rich celebrity was FUCKING!

He must have forced them. Women are never attracted to really rich and famous guys.
They are consenting adults. It’s none of your business.

Well, if Carson made that sort of an announcement next week, it would be pretty shocking. Or any other announcement, for that matter.

Zombie Carson wants to fuck your bbbrrraaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnssssssssss!

New York City, but still, Dave’s got family to think of, and the other women whose privacy is at risk. Adults in the workplace having consensual sex isn’t unusual or shocking imho, and he was single. For me the sex aspect of the story is a big yawn but the blackmail and the identity of the blackmailer is the troubling bit.

I was pretty blase about the whole thing, until I watched the video. The guy plays the entire things for laughs to a cheering, wolf-whistling audience. What a fucking schmuck.

Did I miss something, or is this a thread about Letterman’s public announcement?

Absolutely. I know if I had completely consensual sex with an attractive adult woman while both I and she were unmarried, I’d wear sackcloth and ashes on my late-night comedy show for the next month, just to show my incredible contrition.

I’m happy all you people think it’s OK because it was only sex. It was just sex, and that’s not the problems. The fact that he’s had sex with subordinates is the problem. I agree that whomever Dave had sex with that wasn’t on his staff is be no big deal, and I think no one should really be surprised by that.

Big Deal. People were laughing at first because they thought it was a joke. When he got serious and said the part about what he’d done, no one was laughing. They did laugh when he said that yes, he’d had sex with these women, but I think that was supposed to be a shot at Bill Clinton’s famous lie, I mean line. The only time anyone cheered was when he said the guy was arrested.

Palin took heat for issuing a statement saying she’d prefer to keep her daughters away from Letterman. “Oh my God! What is she implying about Dave?!”

Turns out now she was totally justified in her concerns. Letterman is a horn-dog who can’t keep it in his pants. Perhaps he can modify his infamous joke: “You know, Sarah Palin took her daughter to a Yankees game this week. There was one awkward moment when, um, I tried to knock up her daughter.”

Bravo for David Letterman! Perfect.
