Whether Letterman is proud as a peacock about his lovelife or not (and whether during marriage or prior)…why do we care? Do we suddenly expect our talk show hosts to live up to some high standard? Yeah, right! That’s a hot one!
IMHO, he was a fool to admit anything because of some stupid blackmailer. I mean, who cares??? You can’t blackmail someone IF he/she doesn’t care! Unless, he had sights on the Presidency in 2012! Even though Letterman claims these dealings were while he was single*, that’s between him and his wife to settle (if there was any infidelity). And, even if it involved a co-worker(s), it doesn’t change my opinion - except for the fact that the woman/women was/were stupid to think it wouldn’t come public at some point…if it has embarrassed her/them. As for Letterman, I don’t think you can embarrass someone getting paid to play the fool on TV.
“Oh, my gosh, Henry! A sex scandal in Hollywood! Who would guess?”
It only matters locally if he cheated on someone or messed around with someone in his chain of command at work. Otherwise, consenting adults and all that. And even then, that should be local news, not national or international.
But don’t you understand? He made a joke about Palin’s daughter being raped! Therefore, any peccadilloes on his part from this point on are of national interest, because it shows that Liberals are hypocrites!!!1!
Yea, the whole Letterman thing is bizarre. So far as I can tell, there isn’t anything more scandalous to it the “Letterman had sex!”. Even by the medias usually low standards, this is a pretty weak story to fix on. If they have a similar level of reporting for every celebrity that can be proved to have had sex, its going to be a long year.
Really, big effing deal. I don’t think Mrs. Letterman married David expecting him to be completely faithful. Marrying a TV personality is much like marrying a professional athlete: he gets to have fun while on the road, and you never have to work another day in your life.
Well, he says that she has been horribly hurt by his behavior, and that he has his work cut out for him if he wants to make things right, so it seems pretty obvious that she did, in fact, expect fidelity.
It matters to me only if Letterman abused his position and it was sexual harrassment. If it was 100% consensual sex, then it’s just how it is. I believe all this took place before Letterman was married, correct?
On one hand, I couldn’t care much less than I do about Letterman’s love life. At least he makes the story of it entertaining which is more than I can say about most other celebrity gossip.
On the other hand, anything that takes up celebrity news time that would otherwise be spent telling me about God damn Jon and his idiotic ex-wife Kate and their eight dumbass children is a-okay with me. Again, at least Letterman’s tale provides entertainment.
Yeah, strategically it was the best move for him. Otherwise the story would have been, “He’s being blackmailed! About what? Let’s dig and find out! Hey, he’s covering something up! Naughty naughty!”
After all, the media has taught us that the cover-up is always worse than the original offense. So, get in front of the story and defuse the cover-up vultures.
Now - does it matter? OF COURSE NOT! No celebrity gossip matters, that’s why we like it! It’s empty calories for the soul. ('Cause otherwise we would have to focus on things that really do matter…like our pitiful lives, n’all.)
It was going to get out anyway. And, by the way, his summation of the situation (which was going to be news, anyway) doesn’t present much of a reason for it to be a big deal to anyone not actually involved in it.
Somebody tried to blackmail him. He went to the police, and they caught the guy. Why does the fact that, OMG, Letterman had SEX matter, at this point?
The news story I read earlier suggested that the affairs occurred before he was married. Can somebody cite where the affairs happened after his marriage?

They may have been before he was married, but they were occurring during his long time relationship with his wife, Regina. I think they have been together for over 20 years. They had their son a few weeks after we had ours, so I have always been fond of little Harry.
In the grand scheme of my life, I don’t care who Letterman is or isn’t sleeping with. But since he made it public, it has come out that one of the persons he was sleeping with was an intern who he gave a lot of air-time too. I find that a little odd. Remember Stephanie(Smitty), who used to bring him his viewer mail. She is the one that started this all by keeping a diary. UGH.
I do feel bad for his wife(who he only married this year), and for Harry.
It sucks being a kid and finding out your dad is a cheater, even when he is just some old farmer that know one knows, as was the case in my life.
Without looking up or citing anything, my understanding is that Dave got married a year or two ago to a woman he’s had a steady relationship with (including a son in 2001 (?)) since the 1980’s.
So “happened before he got married” doesn’t mean it happened during his swingin’ unhitched years. Almost certainly not in the eyes of Mrs. Letterman.
It’s disingenuous to say Dave Letterman had sex. He hurt his wife by cheating on her. Some people care about stuff like that. Some don’t. His behavior affects his career just like Michael Vick’s affected his.
