I finally watched the DVR’ed show from Mar/23 last night. After he announced about Bruce Willis getting married, he casually announced that he had, too.
I had seen some small item online (like this one perhaps) that he was married, but nothing big was made of it. He had been “dating” Ms. Lasko since 1986, so it’s hard to call it news. But still…
I had read that he had gotten married recently but it’s true that he did not seek publicity over it. It makes you realize how much the publicity we see over other celebrity weddings is self-generated.
I heard about the marriage, then watched the show where he announced it and then watched the interview with Julia Roberts. Watching that interview when you know what ensued is great. Full flirt and grovel mode.
It’s pretty clear that he dug himself into such a big hole that night that no wonder he was off to the courthouse 2 days later.
Since then, there have been few comments about it on the show. He talked about people asking him if being married was any different and his response was “Oh yeah.” with a fairly nasty look.
I never saw the nasty look, but the one guest I saw who brought it up (wish I could remember who it was) didn’t get a negative reaction, and then they started discussing their kids.
It was all over the news when it was revealed…I think it was even a question on Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me.
It was an extra long interview. Lot’s of flirting and such. Dave mentioned that now Julia had kids he didn’t have a chance with her anymore. (And Julia pointed out that Harry was older than her kids, so Dave had already “planted his flag.”)
An exchange I recall best. Julia was starting to tell the tale of an actor who was a jerk on the set. She asked “Will you bleep me?” and Dave said “Will I beep you?” Head nod, leer, and so on. While okay as a one-off joke, since most of the interview was like that, it just put him in a deeper hole.
Here’s a little bit of it. The above bit is just under halfway thru. But it doesn’t include the previous segments which were denser in flirtation.
