Leverage; worth watching?

When Leverage began, I thought it looked interesting but kept forgetting to record it; now the ads for the new season are airing and my interest is piqued again; any fans of the show out there?

It’s a lot of fun, and one of my favorite shows. I can’t wait for the next season.

No, it’s not great. But as a friend of mine says, it’s “big, dumb fun”.

It’s always an entertaining show. I highly recommend it for everyone who likes a good caper.

We’ve been watching Season 1 on Netflix Watch Instantly. It’s not highly cerebral, or grittily realistic, and that’s what I love about it. If I ever need a mood boost, it’s what I choose. Capers in the cause of good, what’s not to like?

Yup. If you’re fine with your TV being Burn Notice sometimes and not always being Mad Men, you’ll probably like Leverage. It’s not going to be looked at as a work of art a couple of decades down the line, but every episode registers on the Fun-Meter.

Sounds good; I didn’t even think to check Netflix for WI availability. Definitely will check it out.

One of my favorites; never fails to entertain. Possibly one of the best combinations of action and humor ever.

Another great thing about the show is that I have a hard time finding a favorite character because each one (except Sophie, who gets on my nerves) has his or her own endearing quirk. I go from Parker to Hardison to Elliott depending on the episode.

So yes indeed, it is most definitely worth it!

I like it alot, although I agree completely it’s “big, dumb fun”. It’s completely unbelievable, since it relies on amazing coincidences, impossible timing, etc. for the plots to work, but hey, it’s not something you take seriously. It’s just fun entertainment.

But if you like it, I recommend Hustle. I don’t know if Leverage is directly taken from it (like “All in the Family” was adapted from “Til Death Us Do Part”), but they’re similar enough in my mind that Leverage has to be an Americanized clone. Hustle is more cerebral, while Leverage has more fist fighting, but they’re both good entertainment.

But yeah, I like Leverage, and almost never miss an episode.

It’s one of my favorite shows, and I’m very excited about season 3.

Enjoyable light fluff almost brought down by the fact that Timothy Hutton is awful.

I record it and usually eventually watch the episode but it is in that tier of stuff where sometimes it gets deleted unwatched because I need the space.

I enjoy it quite a bit. Fun dialogue, good action, generally interesting plots.

And, I have the hots for Parker.

Parker is my personal favorite- she’s delightfully broken. My wife has the hots for Spencer, the “Hitter”. I gotta admit, I can’t blame her- the actor was great in Angel, as well.

It was one of my favorite shows last year. You can’t really think too hard about how they get out of some of their capers, but otherwise, great fun!

Parker is my favorite character too - outlandish, but somehow vunerable and childlike at the same time. My favorite moment: “I am scared of horses. I once saw a horse kill a clown” and the resultant flashback - hilarous.

I really like it. It’s fun.

Though there may be some inspiration from the Brit show, I think Leverage owes more to Mission: Impossible (small group w/specialized skills, intricate plotting to catch the bad guy) and the Oceans 11 remakes, particularly in the use of cutting and “cool” music. There are a few touches of drama thrown in (Timothy Hutton’s alcoholism, the sexual tension with him and the brunette Brit), but it’s mostly fun.

Plus, my Real Life name almost never appears in any movies or TV shows, but they have a recurring character (non-regular) who shares the same one as me. :stuck_out_tongue:

I keep thinking of it as being like the A Team, only with fewer explosions, more hacking, and no one hunting them down. You know the plan wouldn’t come together like that in real life, but it’s fun to watch anyway. Maybe that’s because I haven’t watched enough Mission: Impossible.

That’s Gina Bellman’s character, right? She used to get on my nerves on Coupling, too, until the scene where she got into an argument with a sock puppet. I’m willing to forgive a lot of annoyance in return for moments like that. I should probably start watching Leverage, in fact.

Yup! It’s the only show I can think of where I really like all the main characters. Parker edges it for me, just about, and I love the way the other characters act with her.

For me it’s not brainless fun, either - they get themselves into impossible situations and it’s fun working out how they might get out of them. Generally their solution is ingenious and plausible; occasionally it requires info you the viewer didn’t have, but usually it was stuff you could have worked out if you’d paid attention.

And damn but it’s enjoyable seeing genuine bad guys get shafted.

Season 2 did get weaker for one specific reason - those who’ve seen it will know which one I mean - but it was still good and hopefully that problem will be resolved for season 3. The episode titles hint at that.

She’s probably the weak link of the cast (but I agree with you, just thinking “I am the snake of truth” makes me giggle inanely)

Fun show. Not the greatest tv show ever but I smile when I watch it.

I just watched every episode of Hustle on youtube, and I have to say, for my money, Leverage and Hustle are nearly identical.

Mickey/Albert = Nate (leader/roper)
Ash = Hardison (fixer)
Danny/Sean = Spencer/Parker (inside man)
Stacie/Emma = Sophie (sexiness when needed, also can play inside)
Most importantly, both shows revolve around elaborate cons which take down not-innocent bad guys in order to benefit the innocent good guys. MI may have used cons, so they would have that in common, but the group was more in the employ of the government, while in both Leverage and Hustle, the groups work for themselves.

There was some sexual tension between Danny and Stacie, and even more between Mickey and Emma.

In fact, you could say both Leverage and Hustle have more in common with Robin Hood than MI (high tech excepted). :stuck_out_tongue:
