Vitaly Klitschko was clearly winning the fight, despite the admittedly terrible cut above his eye. He had been fighting through it since the second round. Why stop it when Klitschko was still seemingly unimpaired? I’m supremely disappointed in the result, as usual…
But onto the subject. I think Lewis made a huge career mistake in his after fight interview. He refused to acknowledge Klitchkos skills. Was in denial about the crowd favoring Klitschko, and saying the fight was in the bag. Lewis was a semi popular champ because there was nobody else to consider. Now Kitschko will become the robbed guy, and will get a lot of attention, while Lewis looks like an ass. I hope the organizations pressure Lewis into a rematch, cause I got the feeling he ws planning to duck it.
Its too bad; Klit had a very good chance at knocking Lewis out and that would’ve done wonders for the stagnant world of pro boxing. Of course, Lewis would swiftly avenge his loss in a rematch, as he truly is superior to Klit in every way (tonight’s disrespectfully unconditioned appearance notwithstanding).
From what I’ve heard, Lewis’s next fight might be Roy Jones, Jr. As fun as such a lopsided matchup might be, it speaks volumes about the pathetic state of the heavyweight division when RJJr is the best contender out there.
Great fight tonight though. And you can safely bet on NO rematch ever between Vitali and Lenox (unless the comission forces Lewis). Of course, his brother is still around…
