LG TV--question about properly supporting/mounting it

I bought a new LG TV–model number LG 65SJ8000 65, 65" screen as the model number indicates.

It isn’t wall-mounted, it sits on the included center base on a low table. However, the (picture only) instructions seemed to indicate that it is meant to have supports on each side for the lower corners–to prevent wobbling I assume and which make sense give the weight and configuration. There were no items that matched what seemed to be the supports indicated in the pictorial instructions.

I’ve since added earthquake straps to the back of the TV, and put a couple stacks of books under each end of the screen.

Finally my question–does anyone with a large-screen TV, LG or otherwise, have such extra supports on the lower corners? Should I seek them out through a third party? The LG website shows no pix of their TVs with “corner supports.” I could contact them but I have no trust at all in consumer product support.

Or, am I just paranoid and my TV is fine on the base provided and with earthquake straps to prevent tip-over?

I just bought my first BIG tv, and I’m surprised how crappy the base is.

My tv leans to the right, so I put a handy item under one side, but I’m looking into other stands. I just don’t trust this thing. To wobbly in general.

I found the instruction manual for your TV here:

It doesn’t say much more than put it on a table and make sure there is adequate space around the TV for ventilation. Even attaching it to the wall is required only “depending on the model” but I would be sure to attach it to the wall as you did.

I think the included TV stands have gotten progressively crappier over the years. I’m guessing a good chunk of large TVs are wall mounted these days and the TVs themselves have gotten thinner and lighter. Manufacturers seem to be responding by providing skimpier stands since fewer people are even using them.

I have a 55-inch LG, and I do not use additional supports when using the stand (though mine is now wall-mounted).

I have a 2 year old 65" LG, and it only came with the support legs at the corners, not one in the middle. It looks like LG switched back from those to a center support. Maybe they were getting complaints from people who wanted to put it on a stand that was narrower than the TV itself - you can’t do that with legs at the corners.

My 55" has a (crappy) center stand only. It is wobbly, and tilts forward just a tad.
mmm

If you are really worried about it, you can replace the stand with a better VESA mount. Pages 7 and 8 of the owner’s manual discuss this.

Edit: (clarified that you can’t use both the built-in stand and a VESA mount)

From the thread title, I mistakenly thought this thread was about a pledge drive for a lesbian/gay cable company …

Thanks for the replies. I can’t wall-mount it as I’m in a rental, and I don’t want the hassle with my landlord. I feel fairly confident about its stability at the moment, though some day I’ll probably build little corner supports instead of using stacks of books…yeah, some day.
