LGBT folks: at what age did you know you were...

lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgendered?

(Suggested by this postin the “You’re teaching your kids a lesson in bigotry” thread, in a sub-discussion which someone alleges a third-grader cannot know whether she or he is gay.)

Poll in a moment.

I made a mistake-Could you change my vote from the 2nd “5” to the 1st “5”?

It was my mistake. I think I’ll ask that this thread be closed and correct the poll once it is.

This is hard to answer. I chose “13” because that’s when I had my first hormone-fuelled crush on a boy, and failed to have similar crushes on girls. I didn’t admit it to myself until I was 21, though. So “13” for certain values of “know”, “over 20” for others.

If that’s what “knowing” means then I found out I was straight around 10 or so. I have distinct memories of being eight, looking at bikini-clad women, and thinking that I didn’t see the big deal. But I know I had crushes in fifth grade.

I’m bisexual. I was sleeping over at my female friend’s house when I was 14. We were joking around and laughing about some dumb joke, and all of a sudden simultaneously kissed each other. She’s in a lesbian relationship now while I have dated both sexes and am currently with a man. I never realized I was sexually attracted to females, and had lost my virginity to a boy a few months prior to this.

However, when I was around 10 or 11, I started to notice boys in my class and decide I “liked” some of them. I also noticed girls I thought were gorgeous, but because it was socially not really acceptable, I didn’t translate that to wanting to date or fool around with them.

Closed in case you want to start another.
