Have there been any LGBT Klingons? Or evidence that any may have been?
<checks another thing off the ‘things I hadn’t seen yet’ list>
Well, the Trek universe as presented was pretty straitlaced…rather excessively so, actually. Aside from a few minor lesbianish moments and the goofy episode about the conformity-minded androgynous species, I don’t recall any LGBT references or metaphors. Frankly, I’d be looking to a more adult-oriented (by which I mean written for adults, not specifically pornographic) universe if I wanted such.
Why would an alien race have human conceptions (!) of sexuality? Humans don’t have similar species wide concepts, so why would Aliens?
Because thanks to the meddling of a precursor race, humanoid races in Trek are mostly variations on the same human-ish theme. Not alien aliens, like say the Horta.
There’s the original Trill episode from TNG, where Crusher’s new love interest gets a female host, and wants to continue the relationship, and the DS9 episode where Dax hooks up with a former lover, now in a female host.
Yeah, minor, lesbianish…
Gay characters (or rather the lack there of) has been a point of contention in Star Trek for over twenty years now. IMO I don’t see it being realistic to imagine a gay Klingon given their cultural & social attitudes towards gender roles. A ‘butch’ lesbian female maybe, if it contributed to her being a fearless warrior. But a ‘femmy’ male Klingon? Would get sacrificed at a young age. Be like a gay Predator…
Male homosexuality and being a big tough macho warrior are not actually incompatible.
Do pictures on Rule34 count? I’ve seen some…interesting…Klingon biology.
I know there’s a Uranus joke in there somewhere, but I’m not touching it with a ten-foot bat’leth.
When you get right down to it, we could have seen a whole bunch of LGBT Klingons and never realized it. We don’t have any evidence that most of them are straight, either. Like Bryan Ekers said, the universe has always been written as really straitlaced; the subject of sex doesn’t show up nearly as often as it does in real life.
Nobody said anything about “femmy.” There can’t be gay male Klingons who are non-femmy warriors?
Bekks Yojagh and Moq in the Star Trek: I.K.S. Gorkon series of novels by Keith R.A. DeCandido were allegedly sleeping with one another; both were male. The person who’s told this revelation doubts it, however, because Moq has a mate back on Qo’noS.
It’s not a major part of the story, although Moq turns out to be important to the narrative.
Looking at female Klingons, a “femmy” male Klingon would look and act pretty much like every other male Klingon.
Klingon 1: “I think Molag is gay.”
Klingon 2: “Why?”
Klingon 1: "I caught him bathing last week. Twice. Twice!"
Klingon 2: “Oooooh, yeah. He’s gay.”
“Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects. And claw at you.”—Worf
Yeah…really, “feminine” behavior among Klingons mostly seems to be “sometimes wears a skirt.”
I suppose this matter would fall under “We don’t talk about that”.
Considering the fact that what the Kilingons call intercourse, we would call abuse and or grievous bodily harm, I would bloody well hope not.
As it is, why would an alien race have the same idea of sexuality and social norms as humans do? You might as well as if there are Turkish Klingons. Or Jewish ones. I mean then they just become Humans with bad skin conditions.
One of the few things I liked about Enterprise was the willingness to deal with alien species having very different social norms, structure and ideals. Not just modifications of human ones, radically different one.
Jewish Klingons? Is gak Kosher?
Klingon 1: “He pummeled me into submission and mounted me last week.”
Klingon 2: “Uh, by that logic, I’m gay.”
Klingon 1: “Oh, that’s right! I forgot all about that!”
Klingon 2: “Good times, man. Good times.”
