LiAngelo Ball (basketball player) arrested in China

And now they’re being dragged by the right wing for not being sufficiently full of hosannas for the Orange Chimp

Well, I agree with that last part there, but to the point where I don’t really follow you when it comes to the next-to-last part. Sure, we have bigger issues to negotiate with China; so negotiate those first, right?

And by “first,” I mean “handle the big issues, and never bring the other stuff up.” And by “never bring the other stuff up”, I of course mean “and if Chinese officials, on their own initiative, ever start a sentence with a We’ll Release Them If, then we should interrupt with a quick That Doesn’t Interest Us, because, uh, we’re good.”

I wonder how the players will make up their school work?

Exams are usually given the first week of December.

Missing a week or two of lectures can be very hard to make up. Especially if you have a teacher that doesn’t lecture directly from the textbook.

The school I work at has gotten very, very strict. 5 mins late to class counts as absent. 3 unauthorized absents lowers your grade a letter. It’s school policy and you can’t do much about it. Some teachers will let you make up one absence by turning in an extra project.

I guess being arrested in China counts as the ultimate reason to miss a class. But they better find someone with good lecture notes to crib from.

hahahahahahaha!!!

It’s still 4 weeks from finals. They can listen to lectures online and get class notes from others. Many classes have final papers rather than exams. They haven’t missed much.

When I was at UCLA, half the class was missing on Thanksgiving week and many Tu/Thu classes were cancelled.

That sounds more like my college years. The professors didn’t particularly care if you attended class or not. We were considered adults and it was on us to attend lecture and do the work. We learned to take responsibility for our choices & actions

Now my old college is like high school. They call roll, you get three absences a semester. Get docked a grade if you have more. I took a night class a few years ago and was very surprised at the change.

Not my idea of college. But that’s what they do.

As anyone could have predicted, Trump is ranting about LaVar Ball on Twitter.

LaVar Ball and Donald Trump deserve one another.

Of course, one man is a blowhard living vicariously through his children. The other one might have better things to with his time than pick Twitter fights.

Yeah, could see this coming a mile away. Another chance to galvanize a portion of the public toward anger seeing a grouping of athletes (first NFL, now NCAA…and let’s not forget the Golden State Warriors) as ingrates who lack respect for law and order.

Actually just Lavar’s good. The kids are too quiet. Dear Pudge Leader was a pushover for Rodman’s bluster; LB would also razzle dazzle, accordingly.

Small world - I was also considering enrolling at Fuck With Us You Deadbeat MotherFucker And Your Balls Will Get Ran Up The Flagpole Faster Than You Can Say Boo-ya, Shithead. College, but decided funds were too low.

April Ryan, White House correspondent, is destroying the Ball family on Twitter tonight.

That might just be self-correcting.

Depending on what they actually did with the charges on the Chinese side, those kids may never be allowed to re-enter China. Or they might be allowed in and then re-arrested on those charges. Especially when they were released as a diplomatic effort yet the criminals clearly did not repent of their crimes nor bear any gratitude toward China.

Might be difficult, even potentially embarrassing for his team, should he play professional basketball, to be invited to China.

Nah, just Lavar. For some reason, people still listen to a not-even-has-been, just because he’s got a big mouth and a son that’s good at sports ball. I figured even this administration had enough firing neurons (a solid half-dozen should do it) to realize Papa Ball is nothing more than a troll and charlatan.

Lavar has won this fight, no matter what April Ryan believes - the President is now feuding with someone who NEVER mattered. What’s next, he gets into a Twitter “battle” with whoever has the “God” handle? Or a high school civics teacher? President Xi Jinping has to be laughing his ass off - so much entertainment, just for letting a few shoplifting charges disappear.

LiAngelo has withdrawn from UCLA. He won’t be missed.

I don’t think you can just walk into the NBA without playing in college unless you’ve played professionally somewhere else. Maybe this is a move to play overseas. I hear China has a good league, plus he already has some stats over there: He has a couple of steals

Lamar has said that only financially needy players do that. He has hinted that his last two sons will train and enter the NBA as free agents. It seems crazy to me.

Apparently, Lab at has compromised his youngest sons NCAA eligibility by giving him his own shoe line.

This seems appropriate.

Technically you can. Obviously, LeBron James did it, and a host of other players. It’s been about a decade since guys were allowed to go directly from high school to the NBA, but even now the only official requirements are that you be 19 and at least one removed from your last year of HS. So the Ball kids could just shoot a lot of free throws until they hit 19 and then declare for the draft.

I’m pretty sure there isn’t a mechanism for declaring yourself a free agent and bypassing the draft, though.

Update: LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball to Play Professionally in Lithuania

Sources say that they’ve signed one-year contracts with Lithuanian team Prienu Vytautas. I can’t understand what Prienu gets out of this.
