Libertarian belief and the abolishment of taxation

If I’m not mistaken, some Libertarians belief that taxation is comparable to armed robbery. Now then, suppose all taxes were abolished. How do you Libertarians out there propose handling the following:

  1. Fire protection: Who’s goung to pay for it? If you are seriously proposing that we privatize the fire department, what happens to those who can’t pay? Embers from burning buildings often have a tendency to ignite nearby structures. Do you really want to have to pay to have your house extinguished and subsequently repaired or replaced because your neigbor couldn’t afford to pay his bills?

  2. Police protection

  3. National Defense: Even if the government respected the Second Amendment, I doubt the general population would go out and purchase assault rifles and machine guns. And what about fighter jets, tanks, missile defense systems, and other military grade hardware?

While Libertarianism is based on perfectly sensible principles, some people seem to be taking it too far.

Life is a tragedy for those who feel and a comedy for those who think.

Let us just make clear here that not all Libertarians are completely anti-tax. Most are simply anti-excessive taxes that go beyond basic protections likethis and ensuring the rule of law to Welfare os Social Engineering.

Many far out Libertarinas believe that businesses will provide funding for fire/police in their areas in their own self interest. I don’t think that would work, so I don’t agree with those Libertarians. Some also think the government should stop paying for education, road repair, and public transportation, still believing businesses will pick up the slack. Some things must be done by the government, it’s just deciding which things that’s the hard part.

“God is the biggest bitch of them all.”

Jack, as a fellow libertarian, allow me to break down my opinions of that list.

Education: MOST, not all, parents would spend money on their kids to send them off to school. The educational quality would probably be greater and schools would compete for students.

Fire: Two to three national conglomarets would probably pick this up, assumed coverage, similar to much of our current EMS system, i.e. American Medical Response

Police: Less effective than fire system under extreme libertarianism

RoadRepair: Might as well procur a tank for the 3 foot diamater potholes. Although public support for roads, etc. is typically a good idea, states such as Virginia should permit private roads. A company in Virginia wanted to try to build a toll road parallel to some public arterial roadway and objection was strong, there were several legal blacking attempts by the state, and I am unsure of the current status of the problem.
