Libyan, Iraqi, North Korean Text Books...

Has anyone ever seen one? If so what does it say about the USA???

Since I went to school in the USA, and I’ve learned that people generally write really bad things about their enemies in their history books, I’d daresay that Libyans, Iraqi, etc., textbooks are generally disapproving of Evil America[sup]TM[/sup].

What makes you think that they can afford textbooks?

Except for the Libyans of course.

I dunno about the countries you listed, but I did study abroad in Cuba for a brief stint 2 years ago, and had the chance to peruse an elementary school textbook. It must have been a couple dozen years old at least, and the one thing I recall was the pride it took in documenting all the American attempts on Castro’s life (at least 10, by their count). (I think there may even be a museum to these assassination attempts somewhere in Havana?)

The rest was standard party-line tripe about the meddling Uncle Sam, but I’ll dig around to see if I can find what it said.

That does remind me though of the old East German English books we have lying around the house here. Lots of talk about unemployment in the West and crime. And of course the impending Socialist revolution in the US and UK. We’re all still waiting for those. Gus Hall, the old general secretary of the Communist Party of the United States and frequent presidential candidate, also plays a big role in some of the lessons.

Thill’s post reminds me that the Cuban book had lots of info and stats purporting rampant drug abuse in the U.S., as if our streets were paved in cocaine and heroin.
