Lie to Me 1/21/09

Was I the only one who caught this? If anyone’s wondering, it’s basically just House without the actors who make House enjoyable. I like Accent Guy (sorry, I didn’t catch any characters’ names but it doesn’t really matter), I like the scenes showing how he sees the casual lying going on in the world all the time and the suggestion that it affects him emotionally, but I seriously doubt they’re going to explore that any further. I don’t think I’ll be watching next week.

And I smelled the suicide fake-out as soon as Accent Guy read the note, but in my innocence I actually thought Eye Candy Lady was the one who came up with the idea. I forgot, for the moment, that she’s only a girl and girls can’t have fiendishly clever ideas.

We liked it. It’s a lot like the Mentalist, without the twinkly charm of Simon Baker and a much better supporting cast. We figured out every twist ahead of time, but we were never absolutely sure we’d figured it out right, so it was enjoyable to watch. Definitely keeping this show on the DVR schedule (which is quite crowded on Wednesday nights).

One thing that bugs me about it is reading the interviews with the creators, feeling the only way to sell the show was to bash The Mentalist. Both shows can easily coexist!

Drat! Missed the edit window! (pesky old job…)
I really enjoyed picking up on the tips to read body language to tell if someone’s lying. That can really come in handy, and I find it fascinating.
