Just got done watching the Veeps debating and I was really impressed with both of them. I didn’t expect Cheney to be as impressive as he was, knowing Lieberman better from TV. I still don’t agree with Cheney’s platform on most points, but he sure was an impressive debator. I also thought Lieberman was quite good as well, so it probably was a was wash on the campaign trail, but I respect them both much more than the pres canidates.
Good one-liner from Dick too.
What did you all think, I’m sure that there aren’t going to be many rips on the wardrobe or make up.
They were great. I can look up to these people. I almost lost my cynicism tonight. I think both men told me the truth tonight. Dick Cheney was very polished and intellegent. (Bush pick him as your study partner)
Too bad we’re stuck with Gore-Tex for our last two debates.
As a side note, I almost fell out of my chair when Bernard asked them to be black for a moment.
I was thinking the exact same thing! I didn’t watch this time though, just read the transcript, so I’m sure I didn’t catch anything, but I was very happy to see a debate this time where the people actually kept on topic, traded very few attacks, and seemed to both have some idea what they were talking about.
We could just declare Lieberman head of domestic policy and Cheney in charge of foreign affairs, and I’d be a lot happier than I know I’ll be over the next four years.
I was watching the debate earlier and remarked to my friend with whom I was watching, “I’d prefer voting for these two guys as running mates over Dubya and Gore.”
I also liked how they responded to the “Have you noticed a contradiction or hypocritical shift by your opponent on positions and issues since he was nominated?” question. That could have led to some real mud slinging, and they handled it very well.
Definately. After we finished watching the debate, my husband said, “I think Cheney won – but that’s because I’m more in agreement with his platform. They were both well informed, well spoken and perfect gentlemen.” I’d sure feel a lot better about the coming election if these guys were in th top slots!
The people have spoken. It is a shame that they are the vice presidential nominees instead of Gore and Bush.
I liked the humorousness of it all.
What a refreshing chanbge from the first debate.
I was thinking of the sdmb when the homossexuality question came up. Neither of them, however, said they would support gay marriages. I could just see Esprix throwing something at the tv.
I suppose that Leiberman lost the atheist vote however.
Nah, this atheist is still voting Democratic. They’re STILL less scary, from a social-issues standpoint, than the Republicans. If I held my breath waiting for a nominee who actually said anything GOOD about atheism, I’d be a long time dead . . .
Hey, I’m happy they even addressed the issue of gay rights - the prezzie boys haven’t (yet). And no, Lieberman didn’t come right out and say yeah, let’s let 'em get married, but Cheney walked a line, too, by saying, let’s leave it up to the states.
A great debate. One for the books. I’m still voting Democratic. And during the debates, I even remarked, “Man that Lieberman’s smart as a whip - can I vote for him instead?” Glad I wasn’t the only one who enjoyed it so much.
I have to agree. I’m still undecided about who to vote for, primarily because I don’t LIKE either of the Presidential candidates. With these two, I could be undecided because i liked them both.
Super job by both. I don’t agree with Cheney on spending 3 bazillion dollars on defense, but I would sleep better knowing he was advising W. And I think Lieberman looked very strong.
I did agree with Cheney that I liked the old Lieberman better. I appreciate a man who will vote for common sense regardless of how the party leaders want him to vote. That is politics at its finest. All this “vote the party line or else lose our support during the next election” is bullshit and bad for the nation and I respect Lieberman for crossing that line on occasion. That takes guts and integrity.
I just wish that ONCE last night that either of them would have said, “You know, I agree with you that Clinton/Gore/Bush could have handled this or that situation differently.” Be honest. I hate bell-ringers and moronic cheerleaders: “My man can do NO wrong.”
Still, I thought they both did a fine job. Doesn’t make my decision any easier, that’s for sure.
