What could possibly cause a more intense anxiety attack than a slow internet connection?
Just relax and enjoy it! 24.0 is the best we ever get here. Sometimes it’s 16.8. The benefit of this in my case is no close neighbors, thus I can pee outside in the yard if I want to.
A slow internet connection while you are trying to download articles off of EbscoHost for a paper due yesterday and someone keeps picking up the phone because they need to tell their friend something that happened to the mother’s boyfriend of the lady down the street, and of course absolutely it is everyone else’s business!
And THAT is what causes more anxiety.
TSC, who used to have a 24.6k connection when she was lucky.
Ha! I have a fence AND cable modem AND wifi. So, if the urge ever struck, I could pee outside in the yard * while * browsing the internet at high speeds.
Never been that bad, but try having NO home internet access for two months each year (or at least, if I was allowed online, I had to get off when people called, which was often). We only had one phone line at the time, and at the beginning of fishing/lobstering season Dad would be getting a lot of work related calls at all times of the day and night. Our home internet was actually using the business account at the time too, so if I was home during the day I would have to call Mom at work to see if she was online, since if she was and I tried to connect it would frig up the account and we’d have to get it reset, something we’ve done more than once.
Actually, I think the worst was before we had unlimited time. We switched providers and because it was a business account, we couldn’t get unlimited time, or something like that. Anyways, we had 120 hours a month. I was surfing at least 3 hours a night, every night at the time. The forth month we had that account I was averaging around 4 hours a night. Do the math, you know we were going to be slightly over our time. Except when we got the bill, we found out that we only had 120 hours for the first three months–we really only had 60 hours  Fortunately, I didn’t have to pay the bill (It was $200 more than it should have been, if memory serves), but trust me I watched my time online after that until we got unlimited.
Same here, I can piss out my door, and usually do while waiting for things to load.
Hmm, I upgraded to 2Mb last week. I piss whenever I want.
In seriousness, yeah, I remeber being stuck on 28k when British Telecom were desperately trying to cope with a shortage of lines by putting splitter units to divide every non-ADSL line into two. The only way to get rid of it was to get broadband, which passed the 28k situation onto a neighbour - we traced it through three different upgrades, and after that we noticed a certain amount of activity, because they’d run out of options and had to install new physical connections.
I remember when AOL was practically the only game in town (mid '80s?). They would give you X free hours a month, then it was pay by the hour. I remember horror stories where people were getting billed over $2000 from AOL. I think my highest bill was around $600. Dayem, you kids don’t know how lucky you have it today, darn little whippersnappers anyway.
I have been on DSL the last couple years. But I am stuck in a hotel somewhere near Dallas right now and the best I can get is 24kb dial-up. I need to renew my Valium prescription.
I wonder where this door leads? By golly!!! They do have indoor plumbing here!!!
