Miss Somnambulist is considering a career change and becoming a Life Coach. I’d not heard of this until she brought it up but it sounds interesting (I could certainly do with getting some parts of my life in order!). Have any Dopers used the services of a Life Coach and if so, how did you find it?
I’ve heard of this - my cousin in San Francisco has left his programming career to pursue this. I’ve not used the service, but see how there would be a market for it. I mean, how many millions of people go to the doctor or therapist, are diagnosed with depression and given an anti-depression when 1) they aren’t really depressed and 2) they don’t need anti-depressants.
Then again, could be west-coast fad and seems like someone trying to council/advise someone else with absolutely no education, experience, or training in the field.
I’m not going to buy insurance from my uncle (the plumber) or stocks from my roomate (a teacher) so hard for me to buy into the whole idea really. I’d get more out of being a “coach” than I would being a “client”.
