Life Expectancy by Career?

I suppose this is more of a factual question than something appropriate for IMHO, but a mod can move it at will.

Basically, I would like to see a table of data that lists life expectancy in the US by career. Specifically I want to see if chemists have a shorter life expectancy than the “average American”. I have been googling frantically and have yet to find any good data. Is such data even reported?

I asked an actuary friend about this years ago and he said he didn’t know anything about it. That’s strange. You’d think the insurance industry would find it profitable to do some research on this.

Insurers do carry out quite a bit of research/analysis of mortality rates by occupation so that they can calculate additional risk loadings. I’ve seen detailed tables produced by reinsurers that show mortality adjustments by occupation. That’s really all that’s needed to calculate premium or annuity rates. I suspect there’s never been any need to take the further step and calculate life expectancies by occupation.
