In a remote-ish desert in California, it appears a drug deal gone wrong resulted in the murders of several people. It looks like many people in cars met in a very un-traveled location to transact something, and mass murder was the result. Law enforcement at the crime scene have to look it over and piece together what they think went down, and the investigation is still ongoing.
But man, it’s so much like that initial scene in No Country For Old Men. Except the fictional version took place in Texas, and it was probably over cocaine. But still.
Over illegal marijuana? In California?? Seems like you’d want to save the mass murder for something that isn’t available in every other shop on every block in every town.
But, there’s this, buried WAAAAYYY at the bottom of the article:
San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon D. Dicus said the illegal marijuana market in the area has led to brutal crime scenes including killings, sharing that in the last year alone, marijuana enforcement teams served more than 400 search warrants for illegal marijuana grows and recovered more than 650,000 marijuana plants and $370 million.
ETA: I’m assuming the illegal stuff is being shipped over state lines. Gotta love that War On Drugs.
California has had a booming marijuana growing industry for decades. I suppose it’s unrealistic to expect them to shut it all down just because the legal market opened up.
Such a Rookie Move! First thing you do is inspect the cash. Find the tracker. Ditch the bag. Hide it nearby and let it sit for a while to cool down. Pick it up later. Patience, My Man!
The desert is a very big place. Easy to hide stuff in plain sight, more or less.
Yeah, and this looks like one event - in the movie “it looks like more 'n one fracas. Wild west of there, execution over here.” Were any of the victims managerial types?
