Life's little disappointments

A little over a year ago I noticed a new restaurant had opened in one of my town’s older shopping centers. I didn’t think much of it at the time; it looked like a fairly average taqueria type place. Fast forward to a few months ago. I was poking around on Yelp and happened to notice that place was getting quite positive reviews for the most part, and also discovered it was actually a Salvadoran restaurant and served papusas. I’ve never had papusas before and people seemed to like them, so I made a mental note to give that restaurant a try one of these days. Now fast forward to last Saturday. I rode my bike to the farmers’ market that morning, and riding back home around lunch time I realized I’d be passing right through the part of town where that restaurant is, and instead of having lunch at home this would be the prefect opportunity to try them out. So I made a slight detour over to that shopping center, only to find the restaurant had gone out of business. It looked pretty recent, too. Their big sign was still up but the place was mostly empty and it looked as if some construction work was going on inside. Darn it, I wish I’d gotten around to going there sooner. :frowning:

Feel free to share your own minor disappointments.

My oldest granddaughter (age 6) told me Santa wasn’t real. (:()

A few years ago, the only fast food ‘restaurant’ in the town that I work had only a Taco Bell. It was completely raised. Totally torn down so they could put up a new… Taco Bell. :sigh:

We now have a Wendy’s so that’s something I guess.

I work at a huge company and I’ve submitted three applications to transfer to different positions.

I haven’t received the slightest acknowledgement. No one has accepted or declined my applications. They’ve simply been ignored.

What?? I hope you told her to shut her lying mouth!

if it makes you feel any better, I’ve learned that life is just one crushing defeat after another until you finally just wish Flanders was dead.

The Corn Palace in Nebraska isn’t made of corn. I was crushed when my sister told me.

Oh, no, does that mean the Cow Palace isn’t made of cows???

Pedant alert: pupusa.

My favorite Greek restaurant was on Broad Street heading into Trenton. I used to go there on a regular basis and get the most amazing lamb gyros.
The aging owner was always jovial and his equally aging wife would alway say “Hi” to me as she cheerfully prepared my food. If I hadn’t been around for a few weeks she would ask where I had been.

One day last September I went to get a gyro and the place was dark. I figured maybe there was an equipment problem, since he was always having issues like that.
A week later I drove by and it was still dark.

I figured maybe they had gone on vacation to Greece.

A month later and it was still dark.

I mentioned this to a friend, and she said she was friends with their daughter so she would find out. It turned out that the owner’s wife was dying of cancer and was in hospice. She has since passed, and so has the restaurant.

That was a super sad disappointment.

Let’s you and I talk about Girl Scout Cookies.

There’s a Starbucks where the Starbucks used to be.

There was a barbecue place near where I worked in Bellevue years ago. I heard that the couple that ran it passed away and it closed within the last couple years. I hadn’t been there in ages, but it’s still disappointing. It was no-frills, but damn the food was good.

No need to be too crushed; it’s almost as good: they glue ears of corn to the outside in decorative patterns. I remember a lot of birds hanging around, and a lot of bird doodoo on the ground.

Pedant alert 2.0: The Corn Palace is actually in South Dakota.

So sorry you had to find out like that!

The town I work at flatly refuses to let a McDonald’s move into any vacant space. The last two restaurants that closed became a CVS (despite the fact there is one about 1/8 mile down the rode on the same street), and a 7-eleven (which I do appreciate, being a fan of cheap, good coffee). But no McDonald’s.

The Cajun food cart just down the street has moved to another part of town. This is the only authentic New Orleans food in the city, and now it’s gone. No more walking three blocks for shrimp po’boys, beans and rice, beignets, gumbo and the like. It’s only going to be about 15 minutes away, but might as well be in another city in terms of easy access.

Annie-Xmas: different strokes and all, but the absence of a McDonald’s is one of the perks of this neighborhood.

Turns out that place in Nebraska is just a yellow house with a green roof.

Don’t even get me started on baby oil and baby powder.

I haz :frowning:
