Anybody else catch this new HBO series? I thought it was classic Gervais and very amusing. The whole bit with Liam Neeson trying out his comedy bit was hysterical.
I watched a couple episodes when it was on the BBC a month or so ago. Many funny moments but a bit too cringey for me.
Pretty damn good stuff.
Stephen Merchant - “I think AIDS is too heavy a subject for comedy.”
Liam Neeson - “Then how does he (Ricky Gervais) get away with it?”
SM - “We don’t know.”
Just cuz I’m a giant sap.
Did Warwick really divorce his wife or was that just part of the bit?
He’s been married for 20-odd years, but not to the woman playing his wife on the show. Apparently he really does co-manage a talent agency for very short and very tall actors. I found it a little hard to watch somebody else do Ricky Gervais shtick- for whatever reason it’s easier to take Gervais himself doing it. But I did laugh hard at a couple of parts - not just Liam Neeson’s painful attempts at comedy but his bossiness during that scene, and the scene with the accountant.
Apparently Gervais pops up in cameos as other people during the series. In that first ep, I thought that he was playing a little person in one brief scene. You can’t see the person’s legs, and the makeup is heavy, so it’s possible.
This is NOT the case
He does appear in most episodes but always as himself with Stephen Merchant in their office
Huh. I’m pretty sure it was in the review I read, but perhaps I misread it.
