Ricky Gervais on "The Daily Show"

This is one of the funniest things I’ve seen on TV in a long, long time.

Yes it was. I usually bail after the second section and before the interview but I’m glad I got distracted so it was still on for that.

I’ve seen Gervais do that “humping” gesture in his standup act, so unfortunately it wasn’t new to me.

But, yeah, pretty funny.

Although, I’m wondering about the clip they showed of the new show. Isn’t it about a little person? (Warwick Davis?) The Johnny Depp clip didn’t really give me much of an idea of what the show was about.

“That’s why pandas usually have black eyes.”

I don’t switch channels when the interview starts but I sure lose interest. Interview time is loading dishwasher time. But that was so totally hilarious and, well, random.

Yes, and they showed Warwick briefly. However, it looks like they are showing the Depp clip to get people to watch.

Goddamned sonofabitch, I don’t even want to know about things like this that I can’t see!

I mean, that’s nice.

At least they didn’t do it like a movie preview and show all the funniest parts.

I’ve seen a couple of episodes of the new show. It’s basically Warwick Davis being the Ricky Gervais character - he plays a version of himself who’s a loser, but is trying to project an image of leading an exciting showbiz life. It’s basically the same joke as the other Gervais shows. I don’t know. I’ve been a big fan of Ricky for a long time, but this might be enough for me. He’s sticking to being a one-trick pony in a lot of ways.

I don’t know about this HBO show but I’m thoroughly enjoying “the thing on the Science Channel with Karl”. As a matter of fact, the whole porn for panda conversation sounded like something Karl would say.

Well, I really hope they didn’t.

Porno For Pandas would make an excellent band name, and confuse the shit out of Perry Farrell’s fan base.

The two of them riffing together can be funny. Much of the time they’re like a couple of frat boys doing potty jokes.

Or like comedians hanging out backstage after a show. I get the impression that Stewart was always the most popular guy on the stand-up circuit, the one all the other comics wanted to hang out with. He really brings that vibe to the show

I thought Jon Stewart was way funnier than Ricky Gervais, but then I’ve never thought Ricky Gervais was funny. Still don’t.

Video not available in my location, as usual. Oh well.

Damn, dude. You should move.

He certainly makes it clear that he is willing to go back and forth with comedy professionals (and, frankly, any guest who can hang in) in a way that showcases them and makes them look entertaining. If I was a comedian, I would deeply appreciate that in a host…

He reminds me of Jonny Carson, in the sense that if someone is funny, he brings the funny out of them. Everyone loved Carson because he made you shine.

I just saw the Jan. 24 episode with Elizabeth Warren – Stewart totally cracked her up –

Warren: It’s how kids like me, the daughter of some guy who sold fencing, ended up as a professor …

Stewart: You didn’t know his name!?

Warren totally lost it for a second.

Bwahh!
