Okay I have heard this said in other threads. Many people are leaving and myself will be included in this. It is not that I dont have any cash or that I dont want to pay. It is that this site will eventually fade into nothing as you stop people from just jumping on. That is what makes this board different. If you kill that what will remain. Where can us refugees from this site go? I still want to have my message board fix and have some of the same former dopers around. So where are those that are leaving going to hang their posting hats? Make a suggestion and maybe some of us can follow.
From what I’ve heard, unaboard and fathom.org are kind of similar to this message board… you can also look at this one if it’s more political debate you’re looking for.
The rats are welcome to leave. The sailors are going to go ahead and sail this thing home, if it’s alright with you.

I started it about 20 minutes after the notification. It’s almost 12 hours later and there are 3 members, including me. I don’t know if this will be enough to sustain the lively discourse we’re accustomed to, but at least we can all still try to keep in touch.
