Where does the tradition that Robin Hood wears “Lincoln green” come from?
Excactly what color is Lincoln green, anyway?

At a guess it comes from Lincoln in the UK.
I’d say the colour of Lincoln Green is probably a shade of green.
Yes AndyJ is right about the origin. Several British towns were known in medieval times for cloth dyed in a particular colour. The nearest modern equivalent of the idea would be something like “blue denim” when you could only get jeans in that colour.
Sometimes the idea stuck pretty fast. My link quotes examples of Coventry blue and Yorkshire grey too, and even today the football team in Coventry play in blue shirts and the term Yorkshire Grey has since been used for a variety of things including ceramics, horses, a brewery and an army regiment.
Some other colours take their names from towns and even countries. For instance “umber” and “siena” are named after places in Italy and “turquoise” is French for Turkish after the colour of ceramic tiles used there.
