Since I arrived here, late August, the Netherlands seems to be experiencing a rash of celebrity deaths.
First, Andre Hazes, who I’m told is the Netherlands version of Elvis himself and more or less drank himself to death.
Then quite brutally, Theo van Gogh, killed by extremists.
Most recently, Prins Bernard died at the age of 93 last night. The news is completely filled with his life and death today.
Coincidence?
Holland, I love you and if it’s me, I’m terribly sorry! I really like this country, I do!

Typical American – you move in, and the country goes to hell.

Based on this, I am considering adding these folks to my celebrity death pool 2005 entry.
Rutgar Hauer - bad actor
Katja Schuurman, - Dutch actress and singer.
Peter R de Vries, - well-known Dutch T.V. crimefighter.
Heloise , could you hold off wasting them until after Jan 1st?
Thanks.
Hang on a minute!
Has anyone seen that most famous of Dutchmen, Coldfire lately?
Dun dun duuuuuuuuuuun!
I’m quite baffled by a Canuck actually knowing Katja Schuurman! But I am still very much alive, thankyouverymuch.

Waitaminute…that could just be Heloise posting under Coldie ’s username to throw us off the scent. Fiendishly clever, that woman.
My own relocation to Europe coincided with nothing more dramatic that the breakup of Take That, and the jury is still out on whether that was a good or a bad thing in light of Robbie Williams’ subsequent career…
So you move to Holland and an alcoholic and a really, really, really old guy die and a somewhat famous person is killed by a nutjob? What are the odds?
The odds are 100%, so far!
[sub]Annie, Heloise might not be 100% serious , though… I’ll ask her to use more smilies, OK? :)[/sub]

He is most annoying.

Well, another one kicked it last night. Zanger Willem Duyn, from Mouth and MacNeal, died last night.
I think I need to start my own little death thread and bump it each time a Dutch celebrity kicks it. It seems to be happening with some frequency.
Oh, and Annie…

You forgot ‘De Kneet’. Gerrie Kneteman. WC cycling. He died at the same day as Theo van Gogh. Not in such a spectacular manner, though. Heart attack.
He was one month older than Andrè Hazes.
See? Cycling is healthy.
How do you like this odd country so far? Not home-sick yet? I hope you love it. Please stay. I have this nasty man who sells me cheese…
