Linking to your own website

Just want to check the rules on this before I do it. Are there any rules forbidding linking to your own website?

I have set up a website in which I discuss a certain controversial issue. I state my own opinion on the matter. This issue comes up regularly on the straight dope forums.

I would like to start an ask the… thread, link to my own website and invite questions. Am I permitted to do so, or does it break some rule against promoting your own website.

The website is non-commercial and free to view, but does have google ads at the bottom of the page. No popups. No banners. No flash.

Is that allowed? Or would it get me banned as a spammer?

Not a Mod, but we are allowed to link our Home pages in our Contact information and if your website is non-commercial they allow you to link to it in threads.
At worst, they tell you to stop if the deem it inappropriate for any reason.

Do you receive payments for the Google-ads?
If so this might not count as non-commercial.

You can always Email an Admin with the link for a preview before posting it.

We’ll discuss it in-house and get back to you.

I understand that I get paid for people that click on the ads. Nobody has to do that if they don’t want to. And ad blockers are pretty common. Many people won’t even see the ads. It’s the same type of ads that appear at the bottom of SDMB pages.

I’ve not yet had any payment at all from it. I may not make enough to cover the web hosting fee.
