Links aren't working on my computer.

My next step would be to install IE6SP1 and all Critical Updates.

Funny … I almost downloaded Popup Killa earlier today, but… no. I’m not.

Q.E.D. – do you concur with Number?

Oh, and Lobsang, you’re thinking of Tools > Folder Options > Open Folders in a New Window in Explorer, the thing you use to browse your harddrive.

Q.E.D. on my computer (XP) there is an option specifically for IE regarding the opening of new windows in a new process…I think…

Now that you mention it I am not so sure.

Sometimes I can have like 10 windows open. If one crashes, and then I close it, they all close! (because they are all using the same process) If I could get them all to open in a seperate process only the one that crashed would close.

I concur with Number but add that his idea is a last resort.

Ironically, I can’t use this link myself-- but do you think this might help?

Well, Lobsang – if whatever Q.E.D. cooks up doesn’t work, I’ll try anything.

One more thing to try, then go with Number’s suggestion. Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs. Scroll down to Internet Explorer and click it once. Then click the button to Repair the Current Installation (not available in Windows 98SE).

Also make sure internet Explorer is your default browser. You do that in Tools > Internet Options > Programs tab. Click the relevant checkbox.

Askia you say ‘posted links’. Is this only happening on links within the SDMB? or is it everywhere? Go to a different site, hold shift and click a link.

I forgot. After you’ve done that, close ALL instances of IE and restart it.

Q.E.D.– it was already checked. I only ever use IE. I must have Win98Se since that option wasn’t there in Control Panel.

Lobsang – It’s not just SDMB. I tried holding the shift key + mouse on my college’s alumni website, too.

Ok, go ahead and get IE 6. Hopefully the installation will correct the problem on its own.

So THAT’S what Lobsang was talking about when he said the boards were slow. MAN, that was annoying. Okay, Q.E.D. – now what?

I’ll post back and let you know what happens, guys.

The upgrade seems to have done the trick. I wonder how it got that way in the first place? OK, I’m gone.
