Also the link for COMMENT ON THIS ANSWER just goes to the front page of this sub forum, not any thread about the answer
I checked with IE, Firefox and Chrome, the links do not work.
That article is from 2003. Links often expire after 11 years and that column probably has never been updated.
As for “Comment on this answer,” the link has always gone to the front page of this forum. If a thread hasn’t been previously started, how would it link to a non-existent thread? When people start a thread, there is also not an auto-link back to the column. The OP has to make a link, or else someone in a subsequent post makes a link. I don’t know if Jerry can do this, but even if he could, the Straight Dope certainly isn’t the first demand on his time.
