Links you WILL NOT click

It’s not real, but I’ll put the description in a spoiler box:

Someone photoshopped a lotus pod (one of those dried flower arrangement things with lots of holes and a big seed in each) onto a photo of a breast, and claimed it was some insect infestation.

There’s a debunking on Snopes.

I actually have watched people being killed on camera. I was disturbed, but not enough to avoid clicking on the links altogether. My curiosity was satisfied, and I never watched the videos again. However, the deaths were quick–self-inflicted shots to the head, etc. I will not watch anything prolonged, indicating the victim was in a lot of pain for an extended period of time. In a somewhat recent thread, someone linked to a video of a real live witch-burning somewhere in Africa (I forget where). There is absolutely no way I’m clicking that link. I can’t do it. Just the thought of a video of that nature existing makes me sick to my stomach.

Also, I have not watched 2 girls 1 cup. And I don’t think I need to.

I was going to say ridiculously vague thread titles, especially when they lead to an OP that is absolutely devoid of informative content, but these days I’m more or less duty bound to look.

I have no beef with this thread title or OP BTW.

I am relieved.

People being beaten up in bars because they stood in the wrong place, said the wrong thing, or looked at the wrong person are not choosing to fight. When a verbal altercation turns physical and some bully (or group of bullies) beats the snot out of the person he was arguing with, that doesn’t mean the person being beaten on chose the pain.

If two people want to step out in the alley (or in a boxing ring) and whack on each other, that’s their own call. But when someone says, “If someone really pisses me off, I should be able to beat him to a pulp,” and then says, “It really bothers me to watch animals get hurt,” I find a logical disconnect.

I see, Gary. In your original post, you just said ‘fist fight’. So I went from there.

Yeah, that was an interesting thread, the idea being that society would be more civilized if people challenged assholes to “step outside” and duke it out when their behavior got too… loutish.

Sorry, you’re right. That post wasn’t clear.

Care to point out where I said the underlined bit?

Yeah, you probably guessed that I read a particular thread you had in mind, but I did not. Do we have a link?

You didn’t say the underlined bit. I should have made clear that I wasn’t directly quoting you. I did (and do) believe that you think that way, however, based on these two posts you made:

(I don’t see any indication here that you feel violence should only be used against such people in response to violence)

(note that this says nothing about tasers and peppersprays being used only in response to violence)

If I am misinterpreting your feelings, I apologize.

It’s the “Fist fights are good for society” thread.

It’s not a logical thing, it’s an emotional reaction. People (adults, anyway) = probably jerkish in some way or another. Children, animals, the mentally retarded = 100% innocent of anything. Also, the fact that children, animals, et al, don’t understand what’s happening to them is somehow worse.

Like I said, it’s not logical. It’s just a gut reaction.
