Linksys router configuration

I have about a dozen people accessing the net via a Linksys router.

I need to deny browsing capabilities to one workstation in particular while still allowing access to POP mail (ports 25 & 110).

The router itself has some of this functionality built-in based on MAC addresses, but it seems to be an “all or nothing” type of option. Denying web access is possible, but this also denies email access.

The w/s in question is running '98.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Most of the low-end Linksys routers I’ve worked with have all had roughly the same configuration screens. Your filtering options are probably limited to:

  1. Blocking a single IP address or range of IP addresses.
  2. Blocking a MAC address.
  3. Blocking a single port or range of ports.

So you can’t tell the router that user x may use ports 25 and 110, but not port 80. That’s Linksys for you.

Maybe there is some way you can pull it off with that thing, but I sure don’t know what it is. If you can’t get any useful info here, you may want to try the Linksys forum at http://www.tek-tips.com

Thanks Neutron!

I suspect I’ll have to look at system policy settings on the workstation instead, or possibly a firewall on the router…
