Linux Redhat/Fedora Core 6 install

I downloaded the 5 iso images for Fedora Core 6 from Redhat and then verified the SHA1 checksum values against the ones listed on all 5 disks. I then burned the images to CD using a freeware ISO burning program. When I boot from the first CD and run “linux mediacheck” all 5 of my CDs fail. I then burned the first ISO image to another CD using a different burn program and it failed as well. Also, when I try to boot the CD from my cd drive I get errors, but when I boot from my dvd drive it boots, but then fails the mediacheck.

I’m running on an HP pavilion desktop system under Windows XP pro, if that means anything. Right now my PC is configured to dual boot XP and linux (Fedora Core 2) but it has been a couple of years since I installed the first version of linux.

I had the same problem with Core 5. I went through two complete sets and 2 DVDs before I got it to load. If you find out, let us know.

IMHO the CDROM driver doesn’t do as much error correcting/retrying as it could. If you could burn the CDs on the CD burner that you intend to read them on that might help.

Strange. I’ve done lots of FC installs and never had this problem, but I usually burn the discs on my MacOSX machine. (The Linux boxen lack CD burners.)

I found the answer.

On boot, enter:

linux ide=nodma

After that, the mediacheck ran fine and all the disks checked out.
