Lip Balm Addicts Anonymous.

sniperfang, I guess it depends on the individual. For me it’s part of using moisturizer on my face. The eyes get their own specialized moisturizer, and so do the lips. Just as I need a good moisturizer to keep my face from drying out (when you can feel your skin stretching, that’s bad), I want my lips to stay always kissably smooth. If I start to chap, it’s telling me I need to pamper my lips more.

How many different moisturizers can there be? Lotions special for the hands and for the feet, and a general body lotion. A moisturizer for the face in general, but special moisturizers for the eyes and lips. The one that goes on the lips should taste good. I also like The Merry Hempster lip balm, 'cause it uses hemp oil.

Ordinary lip balm doesn’t do anything for me cosmetically, apart from keeping my lips smooth. It makes it harder for lipliner pencil to go on, but it’s a good basis for lipstick (makes me use less lipstick, which is good). Maybe that’s why they’re making tinted lip balm nowadays, so you can moisturize and color at the same time. Burt’s Bees makes these.

I never go anywhere without keeping my lip balm within reach. If I counted how many times in a day I used it, I guess maybe a dozen. Am I addicted?

When I moved out of my parent’s house, I counted well over 100 tubes of balm, gloss, chapstick, whatever.
When I moved out of my friend’s house, I had tried to cut back, but the count was still around 80.

When I moved to Seattle, I only had about a dozen tubes on me, that came with me in my suitcase. I was only going on a monthlong vacation, after all. But then I extended my stay, ended up getting married, and called my mother frantically telling her to pack up some of my things and ship them out. She threw most of them away!! Oh, my precious, precious balms…

I’m working on it. Slowly. The count is back up to around 50 again. I don’t have to hyperventilate everytime I turn around and can’t find a good handful of tubes or tiny jars laying around. I need options, you see. Maybe I don’t feel like clear gloss, or shine enhancer, or soothing mint, or strawberry watermelon. Maybe I want my lemon scented with flavour. Maybe I want the cotton candy JellyBelly one. Maybe I just need a simple chapstick. But by Og, give me variety!

I bought one of these from IKEA, and it’s full. All lip balms/glosses/chapsticks etc. They’re still scattered throughout the apartment, but that is their “proper” place, where my husband sticks them when he goes around tidying up.

My Crack Du Jour:

Aveeno Essential Moisture with SPF15 no chemical aftertaste.

Burt’s Bee’s any kind, but the Lifeguard’s Choice, as it is not SPF15 at all. And it turns your lips freakishly white.

My new crack Lypsyl which is from Sweden or thereabouts. Found it at Walmart and it has no chemical aftertaste.

You say that like there’s something wrong with it.
I have a cherry Blistex in my pocket as I type. Walgreens had them on sale for $1 each last week, with a limit of four. I bought four, naturally, two cherry and two mint. Add them into the stash I already have and I think I’m set for the winter.
I loves me some cherry and mint Blistex!

I’m a Natural Ice girl - I’ve even bought three tubes of the cherry one off Amazon because, while they stock the original around here, they’ve stopped stocking the cherry (my favorite). Reminds me I probably should get some more.

Burt’s Bees beeswax is good too - the peppermint’s a nice tingle. Like wolf, I must feel it working. But I don’t like the Blistex or Carmex types, so only Natural Ice or Burt’s Bees for me. I don’t like the little mentholatum sticks they have out (you know, the Cherry and Vanilla and such, little bitty white tubes) - they’re too small. I have one in each coat pocket, one on my nightstand, and a coupla extras around the house. And now that it’s getting to be winter (and so very, very dry), I’ll be needing all of them.

I have a new precious. Neutrogena tinted lip balm. I can carry it around with me and apply it just like lip balm and it is tinted like lipstick. Now I don’t have to carry a chapstick and a lipstick with me anymore, and I can reapply color without a mirror and without looking fussy, like I’m vain enough to want to reapply lipstick? Pshaw, lip balm is all I need!

I was gleeful the day I discovered Gerber makes a moisturizing stick that could be used on my baby son’s face and lips. He has soft lips too! When he sees me coming at him with it he puckers up.

You people should all hang around trumpet players. They can talk for hours about their lib balms. One trumpet major I knew in college fell into a major depression when he was told that they were no longer going to manufacture his LB of choice anymore (“Constant Care”).

**Cecil **did an (not so serious) piece on it: " Can chapstick be addictive?".

And how about this: Lip Balm Anonymous Ban the Balm!

I don’t do chapsticks, myself, but I have waaay more make-up then the average gal. Can I join?

I am addicted as well… and I just had to go put some lip balm on after reading this before I could post. I always look forward to my Christmas stocking because my lovely wife gets me a whole selection of different kinds of balms that last me all year long. Traditional Carmex and Burt’s Bees are tops because of the tingle. Delicious.

I LOST my Chapstick the other day and freaked out. Went to the overpriced on campus convenience store and bought a new one right away.

I remember using SoftLips for awhile - thinner, longer tube, flavored. They had vanilla, my favorite. It worked pretty well for everyday use.

You guys are a bad influence on me. When I was out today I got a tube of Alba Terra Tints. Tinted lip balm. The color is a deep berry which they call “Blaze.” The SPF is 18. The color intensity is more muted than lipstick, which is fine for everyday wear.

I’m a Blistex/Carmex girl myself…Never really got into the whole Chapstick thing. (I always thought it made my lips dry, but maybe I was imagining it?) I’m also partial to Burt’s Bees. Nice to know there are other chapped lip phobes out there!!

Yep, I’m a fellow addict, and have been for about 5 years now. My absolute FAVORITE is L’Occitane Lip Shield…the one that comes in squeeze tube rather than the cylinder twist tube. It’s $12 USD a pop though. But so worth it.

Eric

Let’s see…

One tube right here by the computer (which I used as soon as I read the OP. Talk about the power of suggestion…).
One tube on the nightstand on my side of the bed.
Three spare tubes in the nightstand drawer (it’s where I store the new tubes).
One tube on the end table by the main floor TV.
One tube on the end table by the basement TV.
One tube in one of the bathroom drawers.
One tube in a kitchen drawer.
One tube in my pocketbook (and whenever I change purses, it’s the first thing that gets switched).

I only use Chapstick, Vanilla Mint. As quickly as I go through the stuff, I wouldn’t be able to afford the expensive stuff.

And using lip balm isn’t addictive? Like hell it isn’t!

Last night at bowling, it was the 10th frame and kinda key to get a strike …just to help the team out further along.

I went up to bowl and realized that my lips were not properly lubricated.

I didn’t have enough time to go back into my purse and I didn’t want to hold up the game.

It was extremely distracting as I chucked the ball down the lane and hit only two pins. ( I rushed back to my purse, treated my lips and then got the spare!)
Lip Balm for Better Bowling.

Just thought I’d share.

How about “Better Bowling Through Lip Balm” ?

I remember the first time I tried it. My flute teacher introduced me in the form of Nutrogena Lip Balm. At first I didn’t really like it, but gradually it became a more positive experience, and I tried different kinds of lip balms. Then I decided to try flavored lip balms and balms with color in them. Pretty soon, I couldn’t get enough lip balm. I would put some more on even though I already had some on. Before I knew it, lip balms took over my life. When I was without lip balm, I would search high and low for lip balm, go into some shady-looking Walgreens, and sometimes even use inferior lip balms, when I knew it wasn’t good for me, and I wouldn’t even enjoy it. And so on…

I like Bonnie Bell because they’re cheap and smell good. I used to use Body Shop Honey or Beeswax or something like that. I don’t know if they still make it, but it’s like the Burt’s Bees regular lip balm. I also love Mac lipsticks to stand in for the LB with some color. I can’t stand greasy lip balms or those that don’t have staying power. Chap Stik is a bit waxy for my tastes. Thanks for listening. Your stories are inspiring.

I couldn’t read this thread without reapplying lip balm: Kiehl’s. I have both the regular and Hue No. 58B.

I’m a Carmex girl myself. . .for about 25 years now!!

I’ve tried others. . .have others in my possession. . .but am NEVER, EVER without Carmex within arms reach. I use every bit in the tubes I can squeeze out. . .waste not, want not.

Yep. . .total addiction and not only I’m willing or even considering giving up!

If I ever run out. . .on VERY rare occasions. . . I feel like not only have my lips have instantly turned to dust, but that my whole body is drying up as well!!

MMMMM. . . Carmex

My favorite is Blistex Silk & Shine, although I also really like the Neutrogina Tinted Lip Color — I always have one in my purse, at my desk at work, and a couple at home, in my backpack. One of the first things I do when I get home is get one from the bathroom and bring it into the living room with me (I’m kind of anal about stuff being put up so I can’t imagine having 50 or a 100!!! - where would I put them all!). But I definitely can’t be without!!
