If you went to a concert in the 1970s, this list will bring back memories. If you didn’t, you can see what you missed. I think every major act made a stop at the Winterland Ballroom during its 12 year run. It doesn’t have the cache as the legendary Fillmore just down the street, but I think it matches The Fillmore in terms of the acts that played there.
I got a late start; my first time there was March 31st, 1972: topping the bill was Frank Zappa and The Mothers, with Foghat and Reuben and The Jets providing support. The last show I caught was in September of '77: Be Bop Deluxe headlining with Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers(on their first major tour) and Yesterday and Today opening up. In between I think I saw around 20 shows at Winterland, some great, some not so great, and some I can’t really remember…
