List the movies that truly define you

Ok i have these books. The List Yourself Series.
Amazing books for those of you who love to journal,
or just enjoy talking about yourself, as a way to self discovery.

They can be quite amusing as well.

So I came across this question:

“List the one movie that truly defines you”

Didn’t realize how damn hard it would be, to choose only one…

 I think the better question would be:

List one movie from each of these genre’s that truly define you.
[li]Horror[/li][li]Comedy[/li][li]Suspense[/li][li]Drama[/li][li]Chick Flick[/li]
Mine …

 1. Dance of the Damned 2) Joe Dirt 3) Storm of The Century
 2. Immortal Beloved/Chocolat 5) Mad Love
 1. Cat People
 2. Chloe in the Afternoon
 3. The Lady Eve
 4. Chloe in the Afternoon
 5. The Umbrellas of Cherbourg

Whoops, that should read
2. The Lady Eve
3. Vertigo

 1. Night of the Living Dead
 2. Monty Python - The Meaning of Life
 3. Cape Fear
 4. Magnolia
 5. Meet Joe Black (also qualifies as a pretty good gay-boy flick)
 1. The Shining (though I’d forgotten “Storm”!- good runner up)
 2. Ferris Bueller’s Day Off (It represents the “I want to run off and leave everything” escapist part of me)
 3. Psycho
 4. Heavenly Creatures (or runner up- Edward Scissorhands)
 5. Grease (though I guess there are guys who like it too)

If I had to pick just one movie off the list that totally defined me, it’d be “Heavenly Creatures.” I just adore that movie, and it really feels ME- with all the drama/genius and the madness and the disturbing factor. I see so many elements of myself in it (I know, that sounds unhealthy!), but I just feel like I’m obsessed.

 1. Brain Dead (Dead Alive in the US)
 2. Monty Python and the Holy Grail
 3. Seven
 4. The Godfather II
 5. N/A

Cafe Society it is.

 1. Any Hammer vampire movie.
 2. Better off Dead/Heathers (no way to choose between them)
 3. n/a
 4. The Ice Storm
 5. How to Make an American Quilt

Hmmm…

 1. The Shining

 2. Airplane!

 3. Vertigo

 4. The Maltese Falcon

 5. Truly Madly Deeply

 1. Army of Darkness

 2. Groundhog Day

 3. The Usual Suspects

 4. The Truman Show

 5. Chick flick? Me? Sorry. Umm Ghostbusters maybe?

Horror
Dunno, yet.
Comedy
O Brother, Where Art Thou
Suspense
The Usual Suspects
Drama
Karakter aka Character here in the States.
Chick Flick
Is High Fidelity a chick flick? If not, The Color Purple or The Joy Luck Club.

 1. count me in on Brain Dead
 2. Beyond the Valley of the Dolls
 3. Scanners
 4. La Reine Margot
 5. Clueless

Horror – at a push, Killer Klowns or The Frighteners
Comedy – Withnail and I
Suspense – The Vanishing (the original Dutch version)
Drama – does A Life Less Ordinary count? War films?
Chick flick – don’t like any of 'em, really (although I’m not against the genre in principle)

Well, I dunno if it “defines” me, but the parallels between my life and Now, Voyager are creepy to the point of silliness. Or silly to the point of creepiness . . .

Horror - Aliens
Comedy - Dr. Strangelove
Suspense - The Third Man
Drama - Citizen Kane
Chick Flick - Gone With the Wind

Horror- Parents The creepy nostalgia thing gets to me, I had a thread in GD about how 50s nostalgia gives me the willies.
Comedy- Hedwig and the Angry Inch gender confusion is an issue I can relate to (TMI).
Suspense- A Touch of Evil because I always knew Charlton Heston was a mexican…
Drama- Of Mice and Men “tell me about the rabbits George…”
Chick Flick- The Piano because it’s romantic, yet creepy.

Horror-probably Alien
Comedy-this is tough, because I love comedies. Let’s go with Dogma, Stripes & Local Hero
Suspense-The Man Who Knew Too Much
Drama-Casablanca
Chick Flick-Eat, Drink, Man, Woman

I have to add a couple of genres that don’t quite fit the above:

Adventure-Robin Hood (Erroll Flynn) & Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
Musical Comedy-Hard Day’s Night

1-Nightbreed
It’s more dark-fairy-tale-for-grownups than horror. But it’s generally put in the horror section.
“Everything’s true. God’s an astronaut. Oz is over the rainbow. And Midian’s where the monsters live.”

2-UHF
“Welcome to Secrets Of The Universe. Today, I’m going to show you how to make plutonium from coomon household items.”

3-Doctor Caligari
Not to be confused with Cabinet of Caligari or Cabinet of Doctor Caligari.
“I can feel your eyes on me, like filthy prayers.”

4-Man On The Moon
“You’re insane. But, you might also be a genius.”

5- Funny About Love
“She died like she lived, like Wile E Coyote”

 1. Horror: The 1982 version of The Thing
 2. Comedy: Pee Wee’s Big Adventure
 3. Suspense: Rear Window
 4. Drama: La Dolce Vita
 5. Chick Flick: Um… hey, didja know there weren’t no chicks at all in #1 above?

Horror: Night of the Living Dead
Comedy: Rushmore
Suspense: Shadow of a Doubt
Drama: Stalag 17
Chick Flick: To Each His Own

Horror: The Thing (1982)
Comedy: Tough one. I’ll go with 1941.
Suspense: Cape Fear
Drama: Empire of the Sun
Chick Flick: The Joy Luck Club

More genres:
Action: Another toughie. Ummmm, Die Hard.
Kid movie: Chitty Chitty Bang Bang
Animated: Secret of NIMH
