List your five favorite sitcom characters, in order.

Hard to select only five, so here goes:

Emily Hartley–The Bob Newhart Show

Carol Kester Bondaurant–The Bob Newhart Show

Peg Bundy–Married. . .With Children

Aunt Clara–Bewitched

Gladys Kravitz–Bewitched The first actress, Alice Pearce.

I tried to select characters who had not yet been mentioned.

  1. Chandler
  2. Joey
  3. Pheobe
  4. Racheal
  5. Monica

Screw Ross.

Only five?

  1. John Clarke (the Games)
  2. Hal (Malcolm in the Middle)
  3. Martin di Stasio (Frontline)
  4. Arthur (The Larry Sanders Show)
  5. Robert Beare (Mother and Son)

Honourable mentions to Sharon Strzlecki (Kath & Kim), Tim Canterbury (the Office) and Ja’mie King (We Can Be Heroes, Summer Heights High).

I’ve posted in this thread already, but it is clearly needs some diversity:

  1. Venus Flytrap, WKRP
  2. George Jefferson, The Jeffersons
  3. J.J. Evans, Good Times
  4. Maxine Shaw, Living Single
  5. Heathcliff Huxtable, The Cosby Show

Ellie Mae Klampett ( What–No love for the Beverly Hillbillies?)
Lillith Sternin Crane (Cheers and Frasier)
Sheldon Cooper (The Big Bang Theory)
Dr. Perry Cox (Scrubs)
Rose Nyland (The Golden Girls)

Dr. Perry Cox
Rev. Jim Ignatowski
Mork
Hawkeye Pierce
The Fonz - (He’s so iconic it’s easy to forget how good his character was in the beginning of Happy Days)

  1. Jack Donaghy, 30 Rock. Just seeing him in the into brings me pure joy.
  2. Rudy Huxtable, The Cosby Show. The most adorable little girl ever, a great kid actor, and she got a lot of good story lines. I love the episode where Cliff lets her stay up all night on a school night.
  3. Jerri Blank, Strangers with Candy. I love it that Amy Sedaris was willing to be so completely ugly inside and out for this character.
  4. Elaine Benes, Seinfeld. I’m always impressed by the small choices Julia Louis-Dreyfus made with Elaine - facial expressions, hand gestures, messing with props. She’s hilarious when she goes big, too. I love when she’s frantically trying to get that guy out of bed so he can make his flight.
  5. G.O.B. Bluth, Arrested Development. Largely because of the Segway.

Niles Crane - Frasier
Turk - Scrubs
Jackie - Roseanne
Fred - Sanford and Son
Roz - Frasier

Boy, you **ARE **Mean, Mr. Mustard!

Alex P. Keaton from Family Ties
Zach Morris from Saved by the Bell
Perry Cox from Scrubs
Barney Stinson from *How I Met Your Mother *
Frasier Crane from Frasier(not Cheers)

1- Wilberforce Clayborn Humphries
2- Archie Bunker
3- Ralph Kramden
4- Ted Baxter
5- Barney Fife

  1. Charlie Kelly (It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia)
  2. Cosmo Kramer (Seinfeld)
  3. Bill McNeal (Newsradio)
  4. Tim Bisley (Spaced! - great, great show from the UK)
  5. Dwight Shrute (The Office - USA)

Dennis and Dee Reynolds from It’s Always Sunny almost made the list as well. I guess I just realized what my favorite sitcom of all-time is.

I can’t even tell you how much I love you for including Butters. I know he’s just a cartoon character but I love that little guy!

Aww, man. Windwalker and GreatStuffMan beat me to my sleepers.

  1. Liz Lemon (30 Rock)
  2. Bob Kelso (Scrubs)
  3. Tim Bisley (Spaced)
  4. Hedonism-bot, Robot Devil or Morbo. (Futurama. Since they’re all tertiary characters, can I have all three in that spot?)
  5. Dick Solomon (3rd Rock from the Sun)

Honorable Mentions:
Randy Marsh (Southpark)
Buster Bluth (Arrested Development)

  1. Basil Fawlty, Fawlty Towers

  2. Jim Rockford, *The Rockford Files **

  3. Robin Tripp, Man About the House**

  4. Archie Bunker, All in the Family

  5. Hawkeye Pierce, MASH*

  • Yes, I know that The Rockford Files was nowhere near being a sitcom, but there were times, I am sure you will agree, that it played like one. 'Nuff said.

** The British show that was ripped off to create the very much inferior Three’s Company, a virtual travesty of the original.
