List your New Year's Resolutions

In 2011, I will:

  1. Quit smoking.
  2. Lose weight.
  3. Get some exercise every single day, even if it’s just a walk.
  4. Put a little money by every month.
  5. Destroy the rotting husk of Western Civilization and usher in a reign of Satanic debauchery and abominable cruelty.
  6. Try to be more polite and considerate to people.
  7. Get out my old guitar and practice a little every day.

I feel confident of keeping most of these, but smoking, that one’s a real bitch.

That’s the kicker, I wouldn’t make that resolution myself since I don’t think choosing a date like that is the way to do it (unless you mean quit smoking at some point in 2011 rather than the stroke of midnight), I think people have more success if they prepare and set their mind which is unlikely to be happening on NYE.

Personally I hope this will be the year I finally reach a weight I am happy with, have been losing weight slowly for about 2 years now and have lost just over 70lbs so far. In 2011 I hope to finally hit my ‘happy weight’ through exercise and good diet.

Beyond that I want to get a new job that will make me more financially secure and move into a new place.

In 2011, I will:

  1. Spend more time camping (regardless of who goes with me).
  2. Spend more time on the lake.
  3. Exercise a little more.
  4. Drink a little less.
  5. Eat a little more healthily.

I will skip number 4 if BrainGlutton succeeds in establishing his Satanic reign. Debauchery without alcohol is silly.

No more dead hookers.
Less dead hookers.
Only one dead hooker a month.

Mine are simple.

  1. Lose these last 5 pounds or so. I already lost 30 last year so I should be able to do this. These last few lbs have been slow going though.
  2. Keep better track of my finances. I have decent savings and I can pay my bills but I would like to know exactly where my money is going.
  3. Be more social. This will be the hardest. I find making new friends tough.
  1. Fit into size 32 jeans by June 1.

  2. Get my weight to 180 pounds by June 1, and keep it within 5 of that for the rest of the year. I need to lose 22 pounds to get there.

  3. Finish my classes to make my teaching certificate transferrable back to Michigan.

  4. Move back to Michigan after this school year, with or without the certification.

Arien, easiest way I’ve found to do this is if you have a smartphone, just put it in their in your notes. (which most smart phones have right?) Just a tip.

  1. Lose the rest of the weight I started last year by June 30 and keep it off
  2. Finish Couch to 5K program
  3. Provide my husband more frequent and devastating blowjobs
  4. Finish my documentation manual at work
  1. Continue the healthy eating/exercise program I started this fall.

  2. Continue to work on overcoming my agoraphobic tendencies by going someplace by myself at least once every couple of weeks, working toward once a week.

  3. Knit for charity

  4. Finish going through the rest of the boxes from my grandmother’s apartment that have been living in the back family room for over a year.

He sneaked that one in, eh?

Mine: Quit smoking, lose weight, stop chewing on my cheeks, write, of quality, regularly, and then submit writing. Save money, get organised. Floss. Have more sex. (It should keep my mind off smoking and snacking.) Keep up with the housework, stop gossiping, floss, and answer email promptly. (At home. At work, I have to. At home, not so much.) Pay off credit cards.

Good luck to all you quitters. I made that my resolution three years ago myself. So far so good!

My SO and I made a resolution to start eating healthier to provide a better example for our little girl. I joined a gym in December so when she goes back to school next week my oldest daughter and I have resolved to go at least three times a week. I will do it even if she doesn’t. I actually found I love the gym so the only problem will be getting there.

My personal resolution this year is to spend more time meditating and studying and less time on the computer. I can’t call this a resolution but I’m hoping this will be the year I finally conquer some demons.

Yeah, I just got one for Christmas actually. I downloaded the Mint app but haven’t used it yet. I put most things on credit card and pay it off at the end of the month but I never go back to see how much I spent on one category. I hope to do that once a month this year. I also have a problem with feeling guilty for spending money on “wants” so I’m going to start paying myself an allowance every week that I’m allowed to use to go out, get dinner, or buy something that’s not a necessity. We’ll see how that works.

  1. Start living on the earnings from my part-time job and stop taking out student loans for living expenses.
  2. Use more of my creativity- start making stuff!
  3. Get my body more toned.
  4. Take advantage of the city I’m living in, and try to find better things to do with my friends than just going out to clubs.
  5. Wake up at a decent time every day.
  6. Continue to use good judgment in matters of the heart.

Many years ago I resolved to give up New Year’s resolutions.

The way I look at it, if a resolution is good, I should start on it RIGHT NOW, and not wait for a particular date. There’s nothing magical about New Year’s day. If I want to incorporate more fish meals in my diet, I should start today. If I want to get more exercise, I should add five minutes to my daily cardio cruiser time today. If I want to organize my files, I can start today.

Exercise 200 times.
Get my novel into submittable form.
Read 50 books.
Pay off some specific debt (NOYB).
Lose 10 pounds.

They were pretty similar last year (the novel one was a ‘do a first draft’), and I did all but the lose weight part.

I’m going to try to fit in some time to read every day, even if it’s only a page. It’s the only thing I really want to do, but always the first thing that falls by the wayside.
