TRAVEL! Plane tickets, tourist info, researching best deals on hotels, etc. I can’t fathom how I ever got by planning trips (or just dreaming about them) before the internet.

Medical research (as a consumer) – what should I know about this prescription, could I have this strange disease, does this look infected to you?

Academic research – online journals, online library catalogs, professor’s online websites for lectures, courses, etc.

Work research – especially visiting college & university webpages, downloading info from fact pages, news releases, etc.

Consumer research – price comparisons, reviews (Epinions.com is a favorite), safety information

Parenting – is Cranky Jr. normal? How do I handle this problem? How bad have I already screwed him up? What are they gonna ask me at the next doctor visit?

Shopping – Ebay, books, music, baby products, cars, drugstore items, etc.

Keeping in touch – friends, family, Dopers, etc.

Entertainment & information (this should be two categories, really)-- general surfing, news, weather, gardening information, home repair advice, time-wasting, playing Scrabble with my Mom, trying to flirt on SDMB and failing miserably, etc.
