I was wondering if anyone knew of a website that chronologically lists all the records in recent years (maybe the past 5 or so at least) that have gone platinum/double-platinum/triple-platinum, etc. Google proved to be useless this time around, with “platinum bands” turning up a lot of jewellery sites, and “platinum records” turning up a really, really terrible Geocities-level website about a label called “Platinum Records”, with the slogan “The Next Generation in Music”.
The RIAA website has a search feature that cna look up certifications by artist, album, year, label, and sales level.
You’ll get tons of returns if you just search by year alone, so you may want to narrow it down a bit.
This is a fascinating time waster BTW. For example, “Thriller” is certified as selling 26 million, but the last 5 million took 16 years.
