Literary Acronyms: A Game

Here’s how it works. Provide a word whose letters may form an acronym which either describes or refers to a work of literature or film. Game players come up with words for which each letter stands, then provides the title of the work.

For example: **W H A L E **
White, Huge: Ahab’s Lifelong Enemy … Moby Dick

In this example, the word “whale” is the work’s central image. Words can be totally random, and offer game-players the opportunity to describe a surprising aspect of a work that might or might not be immediately apparent. Like …

T E E T H
They Enable Erstwhile Technician’s Horror … The Red Dragon

To get us started, here are a couple from me. Don’t forget to give the work you’re describing, and add a couple of your own.

  1. H O R S E S

  2. D R E A M

Sorry, can’t think of a new one just now, but here is one solution to DREAM:

D R E A M - Does Really Enjoy A Murder… American Psycho

Homicidal
Overwrought
Russian
Student
Experiences
Shame

Crime and punishment

K N I F E

Oops, didn’t see the central theme part. :smack:

Just to highjack wolfman’s acronym back to the central theme:

Killing
Nookie
In
Fastidious
England

Any Jack the Ripper book or movie.

One more movie:

H O R S E

HORSE, eh? I suppose my word should be WHALES.

Anyway, Houyhnhnm Oversee Reasonably Swift Experience. Gulliver’s Travels.

New word: BELIEVE

I don’t know if I get the game entirely, but I’ll try the ones from the OP anyway:

Hero Offers Redemption, Soothes Embittered Souls … The Horse Whisperer

Delusional Revelers Experience Altered Marriages … A Midsummer Night’s Dream

And I just saw Achenar’s post on preview:
Buccaneer’s Enemy Liberates Injuns, Eschews the Venerable & Elderly … Peter Pan & Wendy

And a new one:
J A I L B A I T

Achernar’s answer is better than the one I thought of:

How
Odd
Rooney
Supports
Elizabeth

National Velvet

And on that note, I’m going to bed. I’ll see if I come up with something for the morning.

JAILBAIT - JUST ANOTHER ILLEGITMATE LIASON BECAUSE ADULT INTRIQUES TEENAGER

LOLITA
Now you try:

S C A R L E T

S C A R L E T –

She Committed Adultry, Regretfully Labeled Evil. Tragedy! The Scarlet Letter

And this is a B U M P… Because Unplaying Members Perplex (me)

Next person try
