If parents are allowed to do this to their children, they may as well be issued licenses to be a Complete And Utter Fucktard at the same time. If these names are on official documents, whoever allowed them should be punished too. Or the people who recorded it should have been able to say to the parents, “As of now, you are on the Child Protection Watch list as you are deemed a threat to your child’s well-being.”, or something.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Moon Zappa never went around calling herself Moon Unit. Moon is a slightly goofy name but that is about it. Being called Moon might get you teased in school. Having a name like Adolf Hitler will doom your child. Sure he might just go by Adolf but what about job applications? College admision? Your driver’s license? Having a name like Moon Unit Zappa might cause a slight raised eyebrow in those cases. Having a name like Adolf Hitler may ruin you and certainly make you hate your parents and go to a judge as soon as you are 18.

I agree, I never said it was a valid defense only that the symbol was perverted by the Nazis. Its current useage is unfortuantely almost exclusively by right wing racist groups.
Quasi, my original post was not intended as an insult, and I didn’t call YOU anything. It was simply a statement that Dweezil and Adolph Hitler are NOT comparable names, what with one being a bit of whimsy, and the other being a tribute to history’s most reviled mass murderer.

I recall (poorly, obviously)an interview with either Dweezil or Moon and they said that, living in Laurel Canyon, their names didn’t particularly stand out in elementary school.

I’m thinking that, if it’s my shop, I’d be worried about the douchebag somehow lets my potential customers know that I made the cake. Sure, I got douchebag’s money but I might lose some future business over it.

The parents are obviously fucking morons in addition to being white supremacists or whatever else they are, which ain’t exatly a surprise. The dad’s pretty funny, though - he wears a Nazi soldier’s boots, names two kids after Nazis and gives the other “Aryan Nation” as a middle name, asks for a swastika on little Adolf’s birthday cake, and then asks people to look to Barack Obama and not judge him? Weird. Too bad we can’t go back in time and sterilize these people.
In a sort of devil’s advocate way, would we be having this same conversation if a baker declined a customer’s request for little Anton Satan LaVey Campbell’s devil’s food cake?
Has anyone else noticed that the people who want to stand up and speak for the “white race” are generally the last people you want to admit are in the “white race”? I think these parents are tools of a first order, and I feel sorry for the kids who will end up paying the price for it.
Would this have been as big of an issue if the name on the cake was just Adolf Campbell instead of the full Adolf Hitler Campbell? It does seem to be an intentional attempt at getting attention that they wanted to use the full name.
Wow, I thought I had seen some shit on these boards, but I’ve never seen a guy driven off over such a petty misunderstanding followed by an admission that Alzheimer’s may be affecting his judgment and an expression of fear that that may be the case.
