Our brand new grandson went in to see the pediatrician today, and she sent him back to the hospital to go under the lights. His bilirubin level was 15.4. So he and his mama are spending the night in pediatrics, but when my son called here about 11:00 he said the baby’s level is down to 14.7. So I guess it will all be okay. They’re keeping extra close track of him because he’s a little early and because of the Rh issues.
He only came home yesterday, and apparently slept on mommy’s chest most of the night. I told my son he did the same thing his first night home. I’m hoping this will be the worst of the drama and they can start getting settled in soon.
It’s been a heck of a week around here. Son called last night to ask how often is too often to call with questions. Also how much is too much to hold a baby. I told him there’s no such thing as too much. But if he calls at 3:00 am it better be an emergency.
Aww, how cute!
Glad everything sounds like it’s alright!!
Ask about getting a baby lightbox to have at home–it’s a lot nicer to take care of the jaundice that way. I imagine they want him at the hospital for a little because he’s teeny, but surely he could come home soon and do the treatment there.
My little girl spent 2 or 3 days in a baby tanning booth, all at home–it was much better than living at the hospital.
Congratulations!
I hope all the complications are behind you soon, and Baby is back to normal. Congratulations! I loved your answer about holding the baby!
When they’re big enough to squirm away on their own. Until then, cuddle away to your (and his) heart’s content.
Brayden is back home tonight. His bilirubin count was 11 before they left the hospital, so it looks like things are okay.
Tomorrow there’s a party at his other grandparents’, which is planned to cover all the May events, including big brother’s birthday and big sister’s first communion, not to mention great-grandma’s 82nd birthday. I’m hoping he and his mommy don’t get too tired. I expect they won’t stay too awfully long. Should be fun, though. Then they can all settle down to working out a routine at home.
