They don’t have to be audio and/or visual-it just happens that mine are.
I knew that Marty Feldman had a variety show back in the day, so I very recently decided to check out You Tube to see if anything was available, and not only were some available but, more than once, he sang and sometimes danced to music by Tom Lehrer! He did “National Brotherhood Week”, “Pollution” and his song-and-dance to “Vatican Rag” was a wonder to behold!
So, what are your recently discovered little delights?
I’ve been digging on the Fat Electrician videos. I like his take on military history, but he does other stuff as well.
I took the family to DC last week for Spring Break. My space-obsessed 9 year old was delighted that our hotel was right across from the NASA federal offices, but it was just another brutalist federal building, not an amazing Smithsonian museum or anything.
We hit up a bunch of those museums, and eagerly stood in line to get into the Air & Space Museum - he wanted to touch the moon rock so badly. When we get in, the main lobby is closed for renovations. “Where’d you move the moon rock?” I asked the help desk person. “It’s still in the lobby.”
My son was crushed. The Apollo 11 command module was amazing, but he was still bummed. There was a science docent nearby at a table full of meteorites to handle, but it wasn’t exactly the same. I even started looking up other museums that might also have a moon rock. The Adler Planetarium in Chicago had one that was on tour, but I don’t think it’s there any more.
On our way back to the hotel, we decided to duck into the NASA building, because I heard there was a replica Apollo suit to take pictures next to. There was, and it was really cool. But wanna know what was right behind the suit? THE MOON ROCK!
We didn’t even have to go through security to get into this lobby. It was a completely non-descript location, right in front of a little coffee kiosk and a gift shop.
It’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but couldn’t fimnd anywhere else to post it. And I didn’t want to start a new thread for something so trivial.
My daughter got me a milk chocolate teddy bear as a present for some reason. I didn’t want to ruin it – it was imported and pretty elaborate, so I just let it sit there unmolested in its clear wrapping for weeks.
Finally, she asked me why I wasn’t eating it (possibly because Easter is coming up, and will bring a host of other chocolate animals). So I started eating it, bit by bit.
Last night I finished it, and found a card with Nutritional Information at the bottom
(Nutritional Information? It’s chocolate! If you’re looking for nutritional information you’re obvious playing by the wrong rulebook)
So I read it, and I learn the Suggested Serving Size:
So one bear is four servings.
Yesterday, the grandkids were brought over to color Easter eggs. Well, the older was the only one to color eggs. The little one is still way too … .little.
I had coloring kit on my grocery list a couple weeks ago. But the store had none in stock. Not even the crappy Paas basic stuff. So I stopped at a dollar store and found a variety of lits. I picked up a Dudley’s Color Blast kit because it looked interesting. (On my next grocery trip, the store did have the usual kits. Hmm.)
So, first thing in the door I heard was a request to start coloring eggs. Kids can have such one track minds. So I got things setup.
There are 5 color packets: blue, green, yellow, orange and pink (not red). You pour a bit of the coloring dust into a plastic bag. Wet the egg. Put it in. Shake it around.
These came out really well. Some, like the blue, were just beautiful. The pink should have been redder. One of the mixed-color eggs was perfectly described by the child as a watermelon egg.
So, all went well. They had so much fun they fell asleep in the car on the way home. Mission accomplished.
