HAHA. You probably thought that some little girl abandoned her extraterrestrial family to tell the world about their existence. No, get real.
In thishttp://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100531/ap_on_re_la_am_ca/lt_peru_girl_immigration article, we learn of Michelle Obama’s little informant. When given the chance to speak to the first lady while she visited the girl’s school, the little girl informed Mrs. Obama that her parents were here illegally. The girls mother ran off into hiding in fear of being deported.
The President of Peru’s response:
It would be SCANDALOUS? Really? And why is that? These people are breaking the law, intentionally, and we shouldn’t deport them? By them, I don’t mean the family alone - I mean any illegal immigrants.
The employers are breaking the law by hiring them, yet I don’t see people marching in the street, demanding they be sent to jail and their property forfeited.
But for the family, they have an innocent female mascot. Good luck convincing people to go along with it. 90% of anti-seal clubbing supporters would lose interest if seals were ugly. A little off point, but…
Yes, as a matter of fact, I do have a thought or two. They’ve been living here for seven years, have worked, have not wound up in jail. The only thing they seem to have failed at is preparing the girl for winding up on “Michelle Obama’s Kids Say the Darndest Things.” Seems to me they are exactly the type of new citizens we want here.
Should they be deported, I would hope that whoever has been employing them for seven years will also be punished to the full extent of the law. Speaking of criminals, y’know.
I don’t march. But I do think that if any progress is going to be made on immigration issues in the US, the issue needs to be addressed by at least heavily fining employers. And, while it would be nearly impossible to do, going after individuals who are hiring. Maybe it should cost more than $20 to have your grass cut and your lawn done?
It was probably the smartest thing the girl could have done, because now, if they try to deport the mother, the story will be, “Look how they deported the mother of that cute little girl on TV with the First Lady.”
Are you mad? Read the front page of any major newspaper to learn about the Peruvian menace that threatens our society. Honest to God, every day I am reminded that the only thing holding me back from reaching the American dream is all these fucking Peruvians.
I just feel bad for the little girl’s older 9 year old sister- apparently she’s still stuck in Peru because of immigration issues, and such. So she can only really communicate with her family via Webcam.
Reminds me of my own Grandparents and their struggles to get to this country back in the 1930s or so.
I absolutely agree with the fact that employers should be fined aswell - and although you say that these people cause no harm, it’s pretty obvious they do. Perhaps many of them stay out of trouble, but many don’t pay any kind of taxes, and take jobs of would-be taxpayers. It’s not even this that upsets me the most, however. I simply cannot believe that the Peruvian president said what he did about such a problem.
That company, whoever it is, is run by hard-working Americans, probably listed on an American stock exchange and owned by hard-working Americans. The company has moral and fiduciary obligations to its stockholders to maximize profit and if that means “exploiting” scurrious criminal slime, so be it. You liberals would be the first to shriek if the company hired patriots instead, or, through lower profits, was less able to pay taxes to finance your socialist dreams.
For all we know they’re drug-dealing, prostituting, terrorist scum who’ve just been lucky. The little girl should be given a medal for turning in her criminal parents, and have her own prison sentence reduced for good behavior.
But ya know? Michelle’s big program I hear is to make Americans as skinny as Africans. Obama is himself an alien. I’ll bet they go after the investment bankers and oil executives who’ve made America great, not these confessed criminals.
What’s obvious is not always true. Most illegal aliens pay taxes since they have fake social security numbers. They aren’t payed under the table–the company has to have plausible deniability if they get caught.
The only difference between them and anyone else is their ethnic background. And you know what that makes you if you assume bad things about people with a certain ethnic background…
And why shouldn’t the guy say anything? It’s his country they’d be deporting them back to. And, assuming there is no reason but that they are here illegally, it’s going to come across as non-humanitarian.
Yeah, I would say that if you took a poll of anti-immigration people, the firm majority would say we need to go after the employers as well.
It doesn’t work out that way in practise, but it’s because of businesses political influence, not alleged hypocrisy from rank and file anti-immigranters.
I agree. Arguing about the immigrants themselves is a distraction from this aspect of the issue, which is exactly what the corrupt powers that be want.
If nobody was hiring illegal immigrants there would be no incentive for them to come here to begin with.
