Re the term “little mister”, parents (mom’s most often IIRC), used to use this in addressing mis-behaving boys in the context of “I’m through kidding around and hard times for you are just around the corner”.
My question is what the term was supposed to mean. It sounds like a rebuke to a boy who is acting too big for his britches ie “little man”, but it could also be a sort of formal address as when you mother used your full name (and middle name if applicable) when addressing you for potential discipline.
Or is the meaning completely different depending on the specific mother child iteraction.
