Little things that made you smile today

Walking through Bramhall Park this morning, I came across a father teaching his young daughters to ride mountain bikes. They were at the natural grass amphitheater, a favorite place for kids to tumble, roll, run, and slide. A perfect spot to learn downhill technique…nice soft grass to fall on.

The older girl (8?) had successfully negotiated the grassy slope, but her younger (6?) sister was hesitant. Her father urged her on, but it was a tough sell. She was not a happy camper, and she shouted out, “I’m gonna DIE!!!”

I couldn’t help but laugh out loud, which got a smile from both the father and the older sister. The younger girl was not amused.

I don’t have a good response to the OP, but I’m sporting a huge smile after my Illini beat the Buckeyes today.

ETA: I know exactly what you mean, and I love those moments, but I can’t think of one right now.

It is 4:25 AM - I have insomnia. So far nothing. But I have hopes for the day!

Watching my nieces chase butterflies around the garden this afternoon as we had a family BBQ Sunday lunch in the glorious spring weather.

Took the almost 3 year old twins in for flu shots today. When asked who would go first, the eldest Audrey volunteered her younger sister Serena. Serena actually laughed when the needle went in. Audrey was in tears before the shot, and the shot itself was anticlimatic.

The nurses and I all found the “let my sister go first” pretty funny. And then when Serena laughed at the shot, I had an amused smile.

There is a sign I saw in a lift (elevator) which was translated into English as “This elevator only goes up and down.”

Not today but yesterday.

My daughter got home from work and tinkered around a bit. She then got together with a friend to go shopping and see a movie.

It makes me smile that she has grown so much in the last year. She has a part time job, she is studying for her GED (home schooled), she is saving for a car and she has developed a sense of independence that is so far from the toddler hiding behind my leg from strangers.

I have to admit it makes me cry a little too, but the the tears are happy tears.

I was at a motorcycle show last night and I was looking the the Urals (made in Russian, hence the name) bikes with sidecars. There was a sticker on the gas tank that read “Right and left turns may be more difficult with sidecar attached.”

Guess I would have to limit myself to the straight turns if I bought one of those.

I found a website called superdickery.com

It’s fantastic. If I didn’t have to work today with a hangover it would have made me laugh even more.

Yesterday. I was in Border’s and I found a book called The Onion Presents: Our Dumb World.

On Russia:

STATSHOT:
Location of World’s Russian Nesting Dolls:

57%: In largest Russian nesting doll.
34%: In second-largest Russian nesting doll.
17%: In third-largest Russian nesting doll, etc…

It also referred to Alaska, Hawaii, and Minnesota as ‘‘The Bullshit States’’

The South was where ‘‘The Mistakes of the Past Come Alive.’’

and under the heading for Ecuador contained a box entitled,
‘‘Fun Facts Not Yet Destroyed By Lava.’’

I almost bought it for all the giggles it gave me. Thanks, Onion!

I woke up this morning, ready to go fishing on the Gulf of Mexico with my friend Rick. That makes me smile.

I’m taking my boys to Disneyland today. Smiles are definitely part of the plan!

Well, my Steelers won a hard-fought battle. That made me smile. The beer I drank while watching it helped.

My friend finished the 3 day walk for breast cancer in the top 30. Although as my dad says, “it’s not a race!” it made me smile to think of her reaching a personal goal (and my dad yelling at her, “it’s not a race!” while I know he’s thinking “she’s in the top 30!”)

Lots of smiles here! My hockey team won both games this weekend, I got the game-worn jersey I wanted on e-bay, and my husband bought me new towels!

I love new towels.

I work on Sunday mornings in a library, and it’s always quiet during that time. Today I spent about ten minutes discussing whether or not it would be possible to be an ax murderer if your weapon of choice was in fact a bowling ball. We determined that yes, you could, assuming you ground down a bowling ball so that it formed a sharp blade.

While out shopping with my gentleman this afternoon, I saw a book of Celtic poetry at Barnes & Noble. I picked it up and happened to open it to “Pangur Ban, My Cat”. He asked if I liked it. I said I did. The next thing I knew, he took it out of my hands and added to the stack of books he had. Then again, he makes me smile almost every day.

We also went mattress shopping today and tried them out! :o

I was on a dual-sport (part pavement, part dirt) charity motorcycle ride today. At the lunch stop, I was rolling through the parking lot on my way out as I passed a lady with a boy about 4 years old or so heading in. The little boy smiled and waved to me, so I have him a thumbs up. The mom then grabbed him by the shoulder and quickly sheparded him away from the “speederbike scout trooper”. I had to smile at the thought of him asking his mom for a minibike in a few years, and the small role I had in corrupting him.

The sun came out from behind the clouds. Not sure why but it had me smiling one of those whole body smiles. I was so happy that a girl passed by me that I had never met before and waved to me like we were best friends. Another girl was with her and smiled at me too, but in a much more bewildered way.

I had to call Time Warner’s cable TV tech support today, and dude and I had a very nice chat.

Sure, the problem I was calling about was driving me batty, and sure it took them an hour to get back to me, and sure the ticket is still in a “we’re not quite sure if the problem still persists, will know more later” state but…

I was nice and professional, and he was nice and professional and we laughed and chit-chatted and he gave me as much help as he could. We maybe solved the problem, maybe not.

But being a person who does phone and email support, it makes me feel good when a call I am on (as support-er or support-ee) goes well, and everyone feels ok and nobody gets mad and things get done.

Extra points for the call being at 6 PM on a Sunday.
